The Sun witnessed the latest horror as a blood-splattered tot was rushed screaming to a shattered hospital in the gateway city of Gori.
It was 5pm four hours after fighting should have stopped.
The one-year-old boy with an ugly head wound was carried from a police car.
With him was his uninjured sister, three smeared with his blood.
Minutes later, a second cop car screeched to a halt. Inside was the childrens mother, in agony from gunshot wounds in her right shoulder and leg.
She was loaded on to a trolley.
After a brief examination all three were put into an ambulance and driven to the capital Tbilisi 40 miles away.
They had been ambushed a few hundred yards from the hospital as they drove through Goris almost-deserted streets.

Not always, but as a rule, the more a kid this age is crying the less injured they are. The really badly injured child is very still and quiet, not crying or just whimpering. Again, that’s not a concrete rule, but a good rule of thumb when confronted with an injured child.
Even so, you certainly don’t want to ignore the mechanism of injury and fail to carefully examine the child for injuries. Your best bet is the toddler who is screaming and thrashing around. Again, not a concrete rule, just an observation.
Maybe the time has come to fight the Russians directly.
I am disgusted by the United States response. If ever a time to stand up this would be it. God have mercy on us.
IMO we should drop about a thousand of those javelin missle systems in there. They would make junk out of those russian tanks and APCs.
Pres. Bush's statement this morning, flanked by the sec's of State and Defense are the first steps in that direction. The dispatch of a single C-17 aircraft is a trigger for further action. It says "Don't you want to think about this before you go any further?" The dispatch of the Sec. of State to Tbilisi is the second component. They are daring the Ruskies to try something while our leading diplomat is in the country. Then there is the direction for the Air Force and Navy to commence "humanitarian" aid immediately. They're saying to the Russians "OK, now it's getting serious."
Who cares about international law anyway? Nobody follows it. National sovereignty means nothing.
I say we arm the Chechnyans and help them on another Beslan.
Why shouldn’t the Russians stop Muslims?
We shouldn’t have to do this all by ourselves.
Hopefully he just got hit with some glass or other fragments from something shattering impacting the exterior or windows. Still not good though, and I hope the world is paying close attention to how Russian acts match up with Russian words in the coming days. May God bless and protect the people of Georgia.
But this is just good ol’ Soviet at its best.
My heart and prayers and go out to the people of this brave country! I am distressed that we have reached a point with our armed forces that we can't step up to the plate to put a stop to something as blatant as this aggression.
