GP with 2,500 patients kills himself after being unable to cope with pressures of job

Dr Jyotirmay Datta hanged
himself after being unable to
cope with his 2,500 patient
workload

A family GP hanged himself after being unable to cope with his growing workload of patients, an inquest has heard.

Father-of-two Dr Jyotimrmay Datta, 58, crumbled under the pressure of working until midnight some nights - and regularly at weekends - for an astounding 2,500 patients...

He penned two farewell letters to his wife Anne...of 19 years.

He then hanged himself from a bannister at the family home while Anne and their two children slept soundly upstairs.

His horrified wife found his body in the early hours of April 21 this year.

Giving evidence at the inquest in Hull, Anne described how her husband had hinted that he was finding it impossible to cope with his staggering workload.

Speaking through tears, she said: 'He was under a lot of pressure at work, he had 2,500 patients to deal with.

'Some nights he didn't come home til gone midnight. He was also working many weekends....'

Just four days before his death he said to Anne...'I don't know how much longer I can keep doing it.'

I guess the "free" in Free Health Care means getting a free hand to use the labors, and lives, of others forced to providing you with that "right", i.e. to health care, 'affordable housing', affirmative action, etc.

He should have immigrated to the U.S. and found a more profitable, more reasonable practice. Sad, may God comfort his family.

Interestingly, here in the US more and more MD’s are opting out of treating Medicare patients. Evidently, the pay doesn’t equal the workload.

It’s not uncommon these days for Docs and hospital staff to be assaulted by patients. Some Docs have been attacked in their offices for refusing to sign a “sick note” for example.

Who can imagine how many times his widow tortures herself with that very thought....

Dude. Quit. Buy a hotdog cart. Make a couple of bucks. Be happy.

You get what you pay for.

“Evidently, the pay doesn’t equal the workload.”

That is true for many of the reimbusements we receive from medical insurances.

Patients seldom realize what a “good deal” they are getting, EVEN WHEN (horrors) they have to reach in their own pocket because of a high deductible.

Whatever happened to the more sensible option of hanging someone from the NHS instead of yourself?

Not 100% sure they would have allowed him to. His skill set makes him the nearest thing to state property.

described as a 'private and proud man', was under serious financial stress. The couple had bought a new home and he was finding it difficult to cope with mortgage payments and private school fees for his kids. He was also struggling to pay an outstanding tax bill. He had opted to make monthly payments to clear it but found the bill was mounting as he was unable to meet some of the payments.

$ related suicide. Or should I say £

Please add me to your socialized medicine ping list.

P.S. I’m not illiterate. I know your post said to freepmail you, but I’m at work and the computer system blocks access to any form of e-mail other than the company’s e-mail, and catches even FReepmail in its net.

Socialism is a grand idea until you have to implement it.

It’s an “idea” that, like most Liberal “ideas,” is divorced from reality.

“Dude. Quit. Buy a hotdog cart. Make a couple of bucks. Be happy.”

It’s not that easy.

Making a good living can trap a man like poverty. He probably could not see any way out of the trap he was in.
