A hearty congratulations to Manuchar Kvirkelia and Irakli Tsirekidze! May their victories in the heart of a country ruled by an oppressive regime raise the morale of their countrymen as they face the Russian threat. God bless the free Republic of Georgia and its brave people!

nice PR, but unlikely to make a whit of difference in the long-term situation of Georgia. Hopefully the judged events have gotten their influence-peddling arraged to avoid future exposures.

Gee I guess you're right. I just assumed this Gold medal would make all the bad things go away.

I’m sorry for my uncalled-for sarcasm/negativism. Re-reading, it was over-the-top.

I am something of a negativist on the olympics in general. The judged events I can only assume are corruptly influenced to a degree similar to the UN’s corruption. The olympic selection committee is possibly worse? The host country this time is using kids with baby teeth to compete, and they will get away with it (as they do with a great deal, it seems).
