Fred Baron now claims that he moved Young and Hunter, gave them money, but didn't know about the affair until a few weeks ago...
The former campaign finance chairman for John Edwards said this morning he was unaware of Edwards' affair with campaign videographer Rielle Hunter when he paid to move her to California last year.
In an e-mail this morning to The News & Observer, Dallas lawyer Fred Baron wrote, "I will re-state what I have previously stated on one point: I learned of the affair only a few weeks ago and had previously presumed that the 'tabloid' stuff was all bogus..."
...A key national fundraiser for Democratic Party causes, Baron released his own statement Friday declaring that he had decided independently, without notifying Edwards, to help Hunter and Young "rebuild their lives when harassment by supermarket tabloids made it impossible for them to conduct a normal life." He paid for their move from Chapel Hill to California...
...According to an article published Sunday, Baron told The New York Post that Hunter, Young and Young's family lived together in California until tension in the household grew.
"They lived in a single house most of the time and split to two houses recently," Baron told The Post.

In related news, apparently Elizabeth Edwards' friends and family aren't happy, and have spilled to People magazine.
Elizabeth ended up campaigning for her husband but did so far less than she had when he was John Kerry's running mate in 2004.
When news of the affair broke, she pushed him to open up about it to the public, which Edwards did when he taped an interview with ABC's "Nightline" on Aug. 8.
But she was crushed when his interview didn't lead to relief but instead to more digging into Edwards' affair with Rielle Hunter.
Not only did his interview not work, but neither did her blog posting with the Kos Kids. OOPS.
The NY Daily News notes that Elizabeth Edwards' brother has also thrown John under the bus:
Elizabeth Edwards was furious and distraught about her husband's betrayal, but she decided to keep her marriage in tact, in large part, because of her terminal cancer and the prospect that her children will one day be motherless, those closest to her said. In 2007, doctors diagnosed Elizabeth with incurable cancer.The fact that she was living with a terminal disease, "the uncertainty of her own mortality," forced her to make a decision, her younger brother, Jay Anania said.

Assuming this is true, it proves that Andrew Young is not the father. I mean really, does anyone think Young's wife would have lived in the same house with Rielle Hunter if she believed Rielle was carrying her husband's child?

The Edwardses have not, at least so far, sat down with their younger children to discuss the scandal. “The kids are, to a certain extent, oblivious,” Elizabeth’s brother Jay Anania tells PEOPLE, “but children are very wise and know things.”
