Russia teaches US a lesson (Never expected something like this one from Israel)

In this war, Russia won, Georgia lost, and US was resoundingly defeated

Orly Azoulay Published: 08.13.08, 23:29 / Israel Opinion

Moscow's decision to flex its muscle vis-à-vis Georgia was meant to signal to the West, and particularly to Washington, not to meddle in Russia's backyard. Even before Georgia's invasion into South Ossetia, President Saakashvili was in Russia's sights. He was too American for its taste.

Saakashvili was certain he has a trusted friend in the White House; one who would come to his aid and offer significant help during times of crisis. This is what Washington made him understand. He played his role in the alliance fully when he sent his troops to take part in the Iraq War, while maintaining and securing the oil pipeline passing through his country. --- President Bush and his Administration were helpless in the face of the Russia's signal that it won't allow anyone to gain a foothold in territories under its influence - just like President Kennedy did not allow the Soviet Union to keep its missiles in Cuba. --- Had Bush realized there's a new deal in the world, he would not have insisted on deploying his missiles in the Czech Republic and in Poland. He would have also realized that he should step back on the Kosovo issue if he wants the Russians to cooperate with him on Iran. --- In this war, Russia won, Georgia lost, and the United States was resoundingly defeated. From now on, all former Soviet states would know that at best they can expect pretty words from Washington. Officials in Iraq and Afghanistan may also start thinking that they cannot rely on the US. Perhaps officials in Israel will start thinking twice as well.

To heck with Iraq & Afghanistan and what they think about help from the United States! They’ve gotten plenty of American billions and American blood already, with more still coming.

Anyone else doubt that Iraq and Afghanistan was just Russia’s game of measuring our abilities, just like in Vietnam, in preparation for war?

Moscow's decision to flex its muscle vis-à-vis Georgia was meant to signal to the West, and particularly to Washington, not to meddle in Russia's backyard.

American warships headed into the Black Sea and US Air Force planes flying loads of aid into Tbilisi.

Oops ... that lesson worked out really well.

I wonder what Bush’s response will be if Russia tags one of our aid planes?

If that’s the case, they have something coming to them. The US did not go in full force on either occasion.

Anyone willing to provide details?

Orly Azoulay, Washington correspondent for Yedioth Ahronoth, the largest and most widely read newspaper in Israel, and author of two Israeli best sellers: The Man Who Didn't Know How to Win, on President Shimon Peres, and The Man Who Defeated Himself, on the political battle between Ehud Barak and Benjamin (Bibi) Netanyahu.

I think she is about spot on.

Sad, but true. Our ally has been attacked by our enemy. What have we done? We have wrung our hands and are sending Condi Rice to Paris. What happened to withdrawing our ambassador and his entire; freeze all the Russian assets in this country; close the Russian embassy, consuls and other offices; tell the Russian ambassador to the UN and his staff they have 24 hours to leave the country; send a fleet of WRSK vessels to Georgia with equipment for their army and tell the 2,000 man US Marine detachment there to lead the Georgians into battle?

The Russians were last our friends when they employed JP Jones as their fleet admiral.

Pushing Georgians into mass-suicide?
Just how many stockpiles of guns and ammo US left to ARV?
What happened? Too late. US should have done that BEFORE Georgian defeat. The best thing to help Georgians now is to make peace with russia. If White House couldn't defend Georgia, it should leave them alone now.

Self proclaimed experts always “misunderestimate” President Bush. First of all, liberals and the European elites always blame Bush for taking action. Now, he’s criticized for NOT taking action, that they know about anyway. Secondly, this is a European problem and Europeans need to act. The French Pres. stood tall. Where are the Italians, Germans, Belgians, Dutch, etc? Where’s NATO? Europeans have been dragging their hind ends on allowing georgia into NATO. America has its hands full in the mideast, saving Europe from having their posteriors handed to them by Muslims. And, as sone have noted, the fat lady has yet to sing.

Nope, she hasn’t even begun to warm up. The President’s ACTIONS today regarding our military “humanitarian” effort send a strong message to Putin and Moscow; we are not going to let you get away with this; if you want a fight, you have it with America.

Seems a little premature to announce that Russia won and the U.S. lost.

This is understandable if you recognize that our media are hiding the fact that Osetia is a Muslim stronghold.

Israel takes these things seriously, and we should too. Islam has to be obliterated if modern society is to survive, and we have to gather the strength to get’er dun.

He would have also realized that he should step back on the Kosovo issue if he wants the Russians to cooperate with him on Iran.”

These people are delusional, Iran is central to everything Putin is attempting to achieve energy wise. He now has a foothold in the Caspian region with his invasion of Georgia, he directly controls over 50% of the natgas flowing into Europe and into some countries such as Poland a much greater percentage. But Iran has the second largest natgas reserves in the world and Putin needs a toehold in the ME. Iran is his card, hence his supplying of nuke material, equipment, technicians weapons etc to Iran.

Putin considers the ME as well to be his backyard and sees us as meddlers in his affairs. Russian and Iran have a mutual defense treaty and he’s not going to play nice with Iran just because we back off on Georgia. Although if we were to back off he’ll swallow Georgia in a hearbeat which puts him all the closer to those energy supplies in Tehran where he can then create all kinds of mischief not only in Iran but throughout the ME.

Iran and ME are way too important to Putin and no matter how nice we play he’s not going to walk away from Iran.
