He would have also realized that he should step back on the Kosovo issue if he wants the Russians to cooperate with him on Iran

Russian attack response to Kosovo independence, message to Ukraine

...In fact, it has as much to do with the West's plans for Kosovo independence and Russian territorial disputes with Ukraine than it does with Russia's desire to punish Georgia, a former Soviet republic Moscow blames for the breakup of its empire nearly two decades ago.

NATO is moving forward with plans for independence for the Serbian province of Kosovo, a move that can only be understood in the context of an appeasement of the Islamic world. Kosovo has always been part of Serbia. It has never been an independent nation. But NATO chose to back a Muslim push for independence from Russian-ally Serbia.

Seems a little premature to announce that Russia won and the U.S. lost.

Well, no -- this is apparently a "let's all beat ourselves to death because the US stinks thread." And it's from an Israeli paper, so of course, everyone in Israel is a right-winger (no leftists there, no sirree), so it must be true! It's on the internet!

American warships headed into the Black Sea

What is your source for "warships"?

Bush added that the US will send planes and military ships to Georgia with loads of humanitarian aid and medicinal supplies, and he asked Russia to make sure that commercial routes are open.

Ossetians are 70% Christian.
(We could talk about Bosnia na Kosovo as Muslim strongholds though)

But Israel cant afford to loose single battle. We all know that if Israel is dealt like Georgia is by its Islamic neighbors it will destroy Israel.

Israel cant gable like Saakashvilli did.

Do you remember it was just like this for Serbia in 1999...
“Russian black Sea fleet is sailing to Adriatic”
“Russia will protect Serbia”

Sorry you just quoted it. Warships was by inference. You think we'd send in unarmed ships in front of a naval blockade?

Bush is a traitor to any nation that was and could be US ally.
He betrayed Serbs, he betrayed Georgians and he would betray Israelis.

Exactly...
You could look at it from another perspective. This is going exactly as we planned and knew it would go.
We have military, embassy and CIA assets in Georgia and actively work with the Georgian politicaland military leadership at all levels. We have spy satelites showing us all significant troop movements and concentrations. There was plenty of warning sparks were gonna fly along the disputed territories and so we certainly saw the massing of Ruskie tanks, artillery, troops, support columns, etc.
We must have been aware Georgia was going to take military action against it's breakaway provinces.
So one has to conclude that there is some clever plan at play here that we're not aware of and that what has happened so far is all part of the plan.
After all, we don't have the most expensive and best equipped military and intellegence assets in the world for nothing..

What happened? Too late. US should have done that BEFORE Georgian defeat. The best thing to help Georgians now is to make peace with russia.

There are many forms of 'peace'.

We probably did not expect the Russians would go for broke. Worse case scenario from a conspiratorial point of view is that what happened was a slight prod to see just what their plans were. That I could buy. But those who think this is over are gonna be surprised IMHO. Condi is going to Tblisi and the US is not going to send her alone.

What has Israel got to do with this? We have a free press and opinions are all over the map every day on every subject. But Clinton torpedoed relations with Russia over the long run when he stripped Kosovo from Serbia, an integral part of that country for 600 years. Bush compounded the error by recognizing Kosovo as a state. The Russians figure they can play that game too. Medvedev kept repeating “Kosovo, Kosovo” to Sarkosy.

Its not over yet. If Bush is bold enough this will strengthen us, not weaken us. It remains to be seen how bold Bush will play this thing. Putin has made his threat explicit. If Bush comes off weak, this will cause a lot of our alliances to unravel. But if Bush is strong enough, it will leave him stronger because Putin has proven that these countries need an alliance with the west, meaning specifically the US.

And, think about it. Putin’s defense is Kosovo. It was wrong to grant Kosovo independence, so he is going to take South Ossetia. Except by doing so, he’s saying its tit-for-tat, we’re even. Kosovo indirectly is justified by Putin’s action. If its right for Putin and Ossetia, its right for NATO and Kosovo. Putin did not say, Ossetia is historically a part of Georgia therefor I dare not violate their sovereignty; it was wrong in Serbia and it is wrong in Georgia... no, he didn’t say that.

And to push this just a bit further, the fact remains that Kosovo will at the end of the day be independent, and neither South nor North Ossetia will ever be independent. Is Putin going to grant them their independence? No?

No.

If Bush plays this right Georgia will come out of this independent, the Baltics and eastern Europe will remain independent, but neither North nor South Ossetia will ever be independent if Russia wins and the independence of the Baltic states will start to unravel soon, and Ukraine as well. So its not exactly apples and apples.

Today we sold Israel down the toilet by denying them the arms necessary to take out the Persians nuclear program.

I think she is about spot on.

She would be if her assertions were all true, but Bush is not as lame as she proposes, and our response methods are always gradual force increases with time allowed for response and adjustments.

This is the first inning.

Yes I agree.
But you see for us Serbs, and Georgians, and Ossetians, and possibly Israelis- we are too small to let be toyed by big ones.
You see, while Russians and Americans are fighting and outsmartig eachother, we will die...

This is just a stupid article of a taunting leftist cheerleader, nothing else.

Israel is a free country, you can find there even juicier things if you look around...
