This registration document, made available on Jan. 24, 2007, by the Fransiskus Assisi school in Jakarta, Indonesia, shows the registration of Barack Obama under the name Barry Soetoro into the Catholic school made by his step-father, Lolo Soetoro. The Tribune report notes that the ledger entry was “rife with errors.” It listed Obama as an Indonesian, gave an inaccurate name for his previous school, and made no mention of his mother.

I don't think his mother had much standing in the country and he did have Indonesian citizenship through his step-father, if adopted:

Law No. 62/1958 stipulated that children of mixed couples automatically assume their father's citizenship, and a divorced wife cannot take custody of her children because they have different citizenship.

Expatriate women married to Indonesian men must be sponsored by their husbands to live and work there. In many cases, an Indonesian husband can withdraw his sponsorship of his wife and force her to return to her country.

An expatriate had to live in the country for five years before applying for citizenship.

I thought I had also read that he had never attended school before, that he was 7½-years-old entering the 1st grade.

Indonesia doesn't recognize dual citizenship. The document's implications have yet to be discovered.

That was the mindset of a kid within a year of being left by his mother.

Just like Ceacilia, Mrs Is also admitted that Barry attended Catholic lessons at school. “It was compulsory for every student. “Barry always went to the neighbourhood musalla every afternoon. Yep, around 4 to 5 pm. Then he always hurried home after that,” he said.

But, you've peaked my interest - - why are you defending Obama so vigorously? You wouldn't happen to be a fan, now, wouldja?

Turns out I'm not defending Obamasama at all. What I'd like to know is why you want to make the man look better than he is by keeping the focus on the events of his childhood.

If we spent 10% of the time devoted to how other people filled out forms or took pictures in his childhood to what he was up to in his days as a "community organizer" I think we could get him deleted from this campaign By THE DEMOCRATS before the convention starts.

If this were about a Republican- it’s hard to overestimate the amount of time and money the MSM would spend digging into this story.

It would be really useful if we could find some kind of adoption records or documentation of Indonesian citizenship...according to noquarter blog (which I sometimes take with a grain of salt) the GOP has the COLB and other docs...but of course all that is at this point is a rumor.

Thanks Polarik...so under “citizen of state” it is affirmative, which tells us that the stepfather declared Barry as such- it doesn’t show us actual records.

BUT- it should be enough for SOME enterprising news organization to look into...
