100 Scientists, Medical and Mental Health Experts on Effects of Abortion on Women

The United States Supreme Court stated in Gonzales v. Carhart that “it is unexceptionable that some women will come to regret their choice to abort the infant life they once created and sustained … severe depression and loss of esteem can follow.” Abortion is a difficult and complex decision, because it has deep impact upon the woman, her own mental health and well-being, her physical health and well-being, her relationship with the child in utero, her relationship with her husband and/or relationship with her sexual partner, other family members, as well as society as a whole.

As a scientist, medical professional or mental health professional, I agree with the following conclusions about abortion:

THE FACTS 1) It is common for women to experience feelings of anger, fear, sadness, anxiety, grief, or guilt after abortion. The United States Supreme Court is correct that “some women come to regret their choice to abort the...

And then there were studies done in the 80’s that indicate a correlation between early abortion and breast cancer, while later studies deny it. You can never be too sure about the political motives of todays scientists, however, as shown when they cook the data to support global warming.

I wonder, do ya suppose liberals and leftists want to convince others that such a sin as killing your own child at a vulnerable age in their lifetime already begun is not doing harm to the immortal soul, in order to negate the idea of an immortal soul with a moral compass? ... Will the cloying demonic pleas that this doesn’t harm the psyche prevent the soul from feeling the pain of doing such an evil thing? For some, it has proven to do so, but that is a very small percentage. And those such dead souls are a vocal gaggle at FR every time an election rolls around.

And some women regret their choice to have children. This is one of those issues where you can take the numbers and spin them however you want. Not the argument that will change policy. :HOWEVER, young girls should hear this and all sides before making this huge decision.

Well, this "aftermath of choice" can be discussed on several different levels, including:

A person can feel dreadful about doing the right thing, or conversely, feel quite self-satisfied about doing the wrong thing.

That's why it's so inadequate to base one's actions on one's feelings.

It is a function of art, I think, to help people cultivate feelings which actually correspond to the reality of the thing; to train the emotions so that we do "feel" what we know: so that the truly lovable invokes love; the admirable, admiration; the horrible, horror; the outrageous, outrage; the pitiful, pity.

Depression may not seem like a problem of the soul with you, but it is definitely a problem when abortion inveigles the conscience. Do you believe people have a conscience?

My point, as it always is on threads like this, is that this is not the argument to hang your hat on.

You are so right!

The steps of grief (and these can occur with an abortion, too!)

1 — Denial
2 — Bargaining
3 — Anger
4 — Depression
5 — Acceptance
6 — Reaching out

Only reaching out is not in “Death and Dying” by Elisabeth Kubler Ross.
