PROVO CANYON A Wasatch County sheriff's sergeant died Thursday morning after collapsing during a routine traffic stop.
G. Scott Hathcock, 48, of Heber City, had pulled a car over on U.S. 189 in Provo Canyon and had just stepped to the window of the car to ask for documents when he collapsed, said Summit County sheriff's deputy Josh Wall. The people in the car as well as a passer-by performed CPR until paramedics arrived minutes later, Wall said. However, medical personnel were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials don't yet know the cause of death but say it was not related to the traffic stop. "He wasn't hit by a car or due to anything anybody in the vehicle did," Wall said.

Prayers up for his family & friends
The poor guy probably died of natural causes.
This thread should be posted in Breaking News not just in Frontpage News.
More information about the type of person Sgt. Scott Hathcock was...
Oh, man. Try explaining what happened to the first cop to respond.
God sure needed him in a hurry - just plucked him up right before he issued a ticket - the craziest thing. Prayers to the family.
Way too young to die...Prayers up for his family & friends
Indeed. My father was a police officer killed in '87; stories like this still make me tear up.
The Utah Law Enforcement Memorial will be dedicated at the state capital on Sept. 6th.
Good grief. Blessings to the family.
I would imagine they got on the radio and called it in while giving CPR. But you are right, it would have to be carefully handled. Must have been tough on the motorists, too. Prayers for the officers family.
Why? Folks die every day without it being "Breaking News."
It was a sarcastic comment because the poster had posted this local news item in Front Page News before it was removed.
How are you, FRiend politicalwit? I am doing fine - in Nashville, TN now.
Obviously off my game tonight.
My condolences to you regarding your father as well...no matter how much time passes, the pain is still there.
God bless...
They would here.
