Ukraine vows to implement orders on Russia fleet

KIEV, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Pro-Western Ukraine vowed on Thursday to make Russia seek official permission for movements of its warships based in the ex-Soviet state despite Moscow's objections, placing the neighbours on a collision course.

Russia's Black Sea Fleet is based on Ukraine's Crimea pensinsula under an agreement signed by the two ex-Soviet states. Kiev's jurisdiction over the area remains a highly sensitive issue among Russian nationalists and in the peninsula dominated by ethnic Russians.

Ukraine's plans for tougher rules on Russian naval moves, announced by President Viktor Yushchenko on Wednesday, are the latest affront to Moscow after Kiev's sharp criticism of its military incursion into Georgia in support of breakaway regions South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Ukraine has a much more powerful military than Georgia, it’s not even close. Also, Kiev sells tons and tons of wheat, etc to Russia, I don’t think the Kremlin wants their people to starve.

The situation keeps getting worse.

It would be worse if nobody did anything of substance. I see this as a positive move.

The US needs to stand up more strongly.

Give them 48 hours to be OUT of Georgia or stand by for carpet bombing of their locations in Georgia

Russia is still Red in color. An ideology that dominated the region for 80 years just don’t disappear. People tend to revert back to the comfort zones of the past, seeking example.

I have said all along that just because Russia dissolved the USSR and “appeared to embrace democratic capitalistic ideas”, is still dangerous and has sinister motives.

They had to make the appearance of change so they could get foreign investment. Otherwise their economy was on the verge of complete collapse. By “acting” like they were embracing capitalism and freedom, a vast underground of former KGB and old school military have firmly planted themselves in positions of influence. Utilizing intimidation and corruption, the communist party is still in control of many business and government agencys.

Russia is corrupt, dangerous, and will destroy anyone who stands in their way while they build their economy around their oil. Had it not been for Western investment in the oil infrastructure, Russia would still be economically challenged. That investment would have never happened if Russia maintained their old way of communism.

This is my opinion. But I strongly believe that Russia is very dangerous. They are building an alliance with the Chavez Venezuela, and the Amanutjob of Iran, and other nations of concern. Russia should never be trusted. never.

good thing I’m not Prez. I’d have said that the day France set up the first cease fire and the bombing would be going right now.

There’d be no Russian Tanks sitting in Georgia tonight.

Go for it, and if the Russians keep advancing on Tbilisi, I think things will change soon.

Meanwhile “The Chosen One” is body surfing in Hawaii .... but then he’s already set his foreign policy - wait until we have all the facts then we’ll go discuss it with the Russians ....

I’m not gonna pick on BHO for vacation though. He isn’t the President.

I’m going to Jamaica in a few days for a week. I deserve it. if the shit hits the fan and nukes start flying while I’m gone though.... I’m gonna find me a nice little crew, a ship and we’re gonna start some good old fashioned pirating. LOL

Everything you say is true, and also applies to Red China. The Party there used Western investment, technology transfers, and sweetheart trade deals to build their economy in a way they never could have under pure communism. Both these countries have duped us big time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sea_Fleet

Ukraine is saying that Russia needs their permission to enter Ukraine territorial waters. The Russian Fleet in the Black Sea is based in the Ukraine Crimea.

Call me naive but I think if the Russians wanted to advance to Tbilisi they would have done so already. The Georgian Troops have fallen back to make a last stand and the Russians know it will be a bloody altercation that will not look good at all.

Ho Ho Ho The pirates life for me .....

Well in the case of BHO - the press was all over him when he was in Berlin and BHO was pontificating on what he’d do in certain situations - so now when a “certain situation” is available for him to comment on (as in McCain being asked) he’s off on a “vacation” ......
