President George W. Bush Made Obama Possible
By Seth Swirsky
People in America feel safe. If they didn’t, a leftist newcomer with little experience – like Barack Obama – would never be considered for the presidency. Americans simply will not elect a liberal when they feel fear. Since President Bush deserves the credit for our security (through the countless actions he’s initiated: tough FISA laws, winning in Iraq, taking on The Taliban in Afghanistan, etc.), he’s made the Obama candidacy palatable.
Similarly, Jimmy Carter, could only have beaten Republican Gerald Ford if Americans felt safe. And in 1976, they did. While the Cold War was always on the front burner, during the ‘70s the chill between America and the former Soviet Union had thawed considerably. Our two countries collaborated on the immensely successful Apollo-Soyuz space missions, signed a nuclear agreement (the SALT Treaty), and entered a period of détente – a decided easing of tensions.
Yes, there were international incidents that threatened to derail this precarious understanding. The 1973 Arab-Israeli war, for one, certainly heightened tensions. But by and large the late ‘60s through the early ‘80s was a time of significantly less anxiety between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R...

I agree with the headline, although for far different reasons.
Yup.
I blame Alan Keyes and his joke campaign.
Bush’s Fault?
Ol’ dopey me. I thought it was his momma and poppa.
I’ll stay with George Soros for $500 Alex.
Pork spending, and open borders, two things that make my blood boil. That said, I don't lay the blame completely on W.
He signs the bills, but it was a Republican Congress that put the bills on his desk to sign. If he vetoes his own party, the impetuous spoiled children immediately make him a lame duck. Even if he didn't want to sign them, they stuck him between a rock and a hard place.
So, I heap blame on the RNC as a whole. And with G10, we see that they haven't learned a damned thing.
actually John Mccain should send putin a thank you card. The ruskies have pushed me more toward Mccain than any of his positions. Since I do think he would stand up to putin.
‘...16 years after Clinton...’
Let’s see: Clinton left in 2000, and it’s now 2008. Eight years. Damn, did I miss something here?
What a load of crock.. You can blame OBAMA on the Democratic Party, the same Party who brought you John Freckin Kerry, and The Silky pony Edwards in 2004. You know I get tired of folks blaming every damn thing on President Bush. GROW UP.. if you pass blame you have to be a liberal. Quit blaming the stupidity of others on our Beloved President ... bet you blame President Bush for everyone buying houses they could not afford at inflated prices, or blame President Bush for the Hurricane Katrina.
Putin handed the November election to McCain on August 8th.
Ironically, the Russians wanted Obama to win, because the Obamanation would decimate the American military, weaken the American economy, and make America even more dependent on foreign oil.
Putin’s plan for America has, and will backfire.
Putin’s plan for Georgia - the overthrow of Saakashvili - has also failed.
