The mostly elderly (Georgian) men - apparently all civilians - walked with their heads bowed and their hands behind their backs, escorted by armed guards.

Locals stopped to take pictures on their mobile phones. Some pointed and laughed as the detainees marched through Tskhinvali.

Jews "leaving" the town of Regensburg, guarded by Nazis, on their march to the Dachau camp.

Seventeen of the men were brought to the courtyard of the separatist territory's defence ministry to sweep up shards of glass and rubble. The captive men were later seen sweeping city streets surrounded by guards in what appeared a conscious effort to humiliate them.

Jews scrubbing the streets of Vienna after the Anschluss of Austria under the jeers and laughter of Nazis.
