Just went thru this with the Mr. He’s retired military. The Pentagon (I think it was the Pentagon) just changed the rules about saluting the flag. RETIRED military folks are now allowed to SALUTE the flag. We think that is great. It’s a protocol thing, I guess.
Putting your hand over your heart is more like giving homage. It’s not the same as saluting.
I looked at the map and it's hitting workerbee in Melbourne hard as we speak.

To salute, all persons come to attention. Those in uniform give the appropriate formal salute. Citizens not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the heart and men with head cover should remove it and hold it to left shoulder, hand over the heart. Members of organizations in formation salute upon command of the person in charge.
Not important what it’s called, what is important is that he didn’t feel moved to do it at that moment, the comments he made at the Saddleback forum about our country and its intentions in “doing good”, having someone like Kobe Bryant be more proud of this country than a man who would be president, etc. etc. I’m so frustrated that a man like him could have even gotten this far politically in this country.

Not that we’re all sitting here hoping our boss’ vacation is rained out, mind you.
Ok, well I guess I was thinking of the “formal” salute. It’s now ok for retired military folks to render that salute. This decision just came down this year. Many vets are happy about that.

I’m happy for them, I didn’t know that being retired meant you couldn’t militarily salute. They’ve absolutely earned that right.
I always thought of placing your hand over your heart as “pledging allegiance”. Heck, if doing handstands was what it took, I’d do it. =)
