"Im not offended," a Chinese friend told me today when I asked her about the controversial photos of Spanish and Argentinian Olympic teams making 'slit-eyed' gestures. "They can do what they want." she said laughingly as she used her fingers to try to make her eyes look more "Western."
Exactly,
Good post.
Ever see the dodgeball episode of South Park?
"I'll put that on my credit card."
"Excuse me do you have any non-dairy creamer"
"I haven't seen an American go down so hard since Abraham Rincoln"
Thanks to cheating. F#%& China.
So, what do your students think?
Do they think these are just bunch pale-face, big nosed foreign devils acting like monkeys?
That’s what is interesting. Usually, my students and friends here would be up-in-arms about this kind of thing. No one seems to care! On the other hand, other things (Carrefour, Sharon Stone, etc) seem to provoke overreactions on the part of the Chinese. It’s a bit puzzling...
