At the risk of heresy, let it be said that setting up the two presidential candidates for religious interrogation by an evangelical minister -- no matter how beloved -- is supremely wrong.
It is also un-American.
For the past several days, since mega-pastor Rick Warren interviewed Barack Obama and John McCain at his Saddleback Church, most political debate has focused on who won.
Was it the nuanced, thoughtful Obama, who may have convinced a few more skeptics that he isn't a Muslim? Or was it the direct, confident McCain, who breezes through town-hall-style meetings the way Obama sinks three-pointers from the back court?
The candidates' usual supporters felt validated in their choices. McCain convinced and comforted with characteristic certitude those who are most at ease with certitude; Obama convinced and comforted with his characteristic intellectual ambivalence those who are most at ease with ambivalence.

Tripe, indeed. “So wrong?” PULEEZ. “Un-American?” Give me a break.
In the eyes of liberals, religion is something to be practiced only in the privacy of your bedroom, while the joys gay sex is to be publicly celebrated in the streets and taught in the classrooms.
Put a sock in it Kathleen!
This reporter has a serious American History deficiency syndrome.
It is only in recent times, when the churches were muted by the tax write-off laws, that the churches have been relatively quiet about politcal campaigns, and particularly the Presidency.
The shills at the Post strike again. Their messiah freely chose to attend the “debate.” He flopped miserably, so the Post lays groundwork to attack the forum and throw their messiahs comically bad performance down the memory hole. Just another thing the MSM now can’t talk about. This time it’s not because it’s racist; this time it’s because the forum was un-American.
Hey Kathleen! Got any cheese to go with your whine? The fact is Warren did it, the candidates agreed to appear, Obama was shown up for the ignoramous he is and the American people got to see it live. Live with it, Parker!
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
How is it un-American?
It is also un-American.
Wrong and un-American for two men to voluntarily consent to participate in that forum ?
Sure - the Compost thinks it's wrong now, because obama got beat.
.
Exactly. What did Kathleen Parker have to say about Obama endorsing Rev. Wright in HIS church?
Sore Loser.
I personally want to see a forum at Rev Wright’s church with the standard Sunday congregation.
All this griping/whining over the Saddleback Showdown is so ridiculous! The fact of the matter is, the campaigns agreed to it! They could just have easily declined the invitation...it’s not like they were “forced” to participate! Sheesh!
“McCain, who breezes through town-hall-style meetings the way Obama sinks three-pointers from the back court?
“
Stupid line, and false. Obama has a terrible shot.
B.O. bombed, and so now the whole format is “unAmerican.”
Jefferson was, despite his otherwise mammoth accomplishments, an early anti-religious oddity among the Founders. He’s the guy that took a razor to the New Testament, removing all things miraculous (as I’m sure the Obama camp would like to do on all tapes of the Saddleback forum). And while libs love TJ for this side of him, they conveniently omit his thoughts on the evils of homosexuality (hey, that doesn’t break your leg or pick your pocket either).
If we had a press with actual ability to dive in and get stories, this would have been necessary. Actually, if this were to be a Muslim minister doing the questioning, I’d have objected - loudly. So, I have to grudgingly admit a bit of support for the article.
How can this supposed liberal object to what two grown men chose to do on private property?
Does he know that 8 of the original 13 states had established state religions and the Mass. was the last to give their's up in 1835? Someone should tell this MORON that early American politicians were very involved in religious aspects of life. That this “journalist” is so ignorant of American history is in and of itself “UN-American”.
“Kathleen Parker”? You seem to have discovered some new form of moron I wasn’t previously familiar with.
