August 20, 2008 Canada's 'Human Rights' Revolution By David Warren
In the time since I last wrote on the topic, Canada's various "human rights" kangaroo courts have publicly retreated on several fronts. Several ludicrous cases, brought against Mark Steyn's writings in Maclean's magazine, Ezra Levant's editorial judgements in the (now defunct in print) Western Standard, and Fr Alphonse de Valk's in the magazine Catholic Insight -- have been dismissed by the tribunals. This, after more publicity had been given to the cases than the human rights bureaucracies felt comfortable with.
It should be mentioned that none of the defendants got off easily. Each was compelled to spend large amounts of money and time in the extremely aggravating process of dealing with large, faceless bureaucracies, staffed with their political enemies, functioning free of traditional legal restraints. By dismissing each case, after long drawn-out proceedings, the kangaroo courts were able to run up their chosen victims' costs, while finally denying them the possibility of an appeal against judgment to a legitimate court of law, in which they might conceivably have recovered their expenses. "The process is the punishment."

Great, well written article.
Canada’s law is a disgrace and it is being abused by the fullest extent possible. Of course we are not all that far away from getting something like that in this country.
BUMP!
Uh, how does one become a “liberal fascist”? Isn’t that like being a jumbo shrimp, or a chaste prostitute?
A liberal fascist is a left wing nut case who uses or relies on fascistic government bureaucracies to achieve their left wing aims. Like this kangaroo court in Canada.
Actually “liberal facist” is a redunacy. The facists were liberals and behaved in remarkable similar ways to the present practioners. Painting facists as right wing was an attack tactic of the communists and was enthusiastically embraced by the American Left only after Hitler invaded the Soviet Union. Prior to that, the American Left were firm advocates of the Fascist movement.
Read Jonah Goldberg’s excellent book: Liberal Fascists. It will give you the willies.
“A liberal fascist is a left wing nut case who uses or relies on fascistic government bureaucracies to achieve their left wing aims. Like this kangaroo court in Canada.”
And how is that “fascist”? Communism, thought to be the polar opposite of fascism, did the very thing you mention.
My gripe is that this term is used as a term of attack instead of something that actually describes what is happening. Fascists used the tactics described... but so have communists, monarchs, and even democracies. Therefore, it is not a “fascist” thing.
Now, if you’d have said, “Orwellian” I might agree.
From the Wiki site:
Fascism is an authoritarian nationalist political ideology and mass movement that is concerned with notions of cultural decline or decadence, and which seeks to achieve a millenarian national rebirth by exalting the nation or race, as well as promoting cults of unity, strength and purity.
Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: nationalism, corporatism, militarism, authoritarianism, populism, collectivism, statism, dictatorship, and economic planning. In addition, Fascism opposes conservatism, liberalism and communism.
A small l liberal is much more likely, indeed certain to be a socialist in general terms.
National Socialist German Workers Party. (NSDAP)
Give a socialist power and certain tendencies will surface. I remember the socialist party in England, when they were brought into a coalition government. The communist newspaper, the Daily Worker, decried the war- pre Hitler's invasion of Soviet Russia.
Herbert Morrison, the for the people, by the people, workers unite crowd, a socialist, closed the newspaper down. He later dumped on the London Daily Mirror for a mere cartoon, scared the editor with threats. The Mirror toed the line after ward- no fools they.
Pierre Trudeau of Canada was the Liberal Party leader. Some writings were accessed against fervent opposition, in recent years. He had written these at the age of twenty years.
He was a budding fascist- by these writings, 'til the war gained credibility with the general public. Then he kept his mouth shut and left the country for a while.
fascism & communism aren’t polar opposite they are both forms of socialism & are therefore inbred kissing cousins.
