Regardless of what happens in November, Lieberman may not decide to run for re-election in 2012. His once sky high approval ratings have taken a hit in CT.

Resolutions can be overturned with a simple majority vote. Right now, the Senate is 49 D, 49 R, 2 I, one of whom is Lieberman. Lieberman switches and it is 50-50. Guess who gets to break the tie?
There would be no vote. The Dems would run out the clock by filibustering any attempted resolution until the end of the current session. It would take 60 votes to end any filibuster.

Haven’t the Dems been retaliating against him? Hand picked opponent (yes a loser), demotion of status in committees, constant haranguing of him in press (not vile stuff just being the little bioches they are).

I’m not sure of Senatorial Rules but Lieberman doesn’t have to change from being an Independent, he just has to change his caucusing status from D to R, right?

I doubt this is true, but if it is, it’s not good for conservatives. Alhough Lieberman has an excellent record on national security, he’s got a TOTALLY liberal record on all other issues. You’ve heard of RINOs? He’d be a SUPERRINO!

if only because Nighthorse is a cool name. LOL.”
Well put. He also rode Harleys, and was a former Olympian in Judo. All in all, a Republican through and through!
To: Clintonfatigued
Hmm, he'd be a RINO but who knows maybe he'd drift rightward since none of his liberal friends would ever speak to him again.
And for Harry Reid to be minority leader, even just for a few months would be sweet.

He could do that, but in order to change the Senate's organizing rules there would have to be a vote on a resolution. As we well know by now, for pretty much anything to even get to a vote there have to be 60 Senators in favor of it in order to overcome any filibuster. The Dems would simply run out the clock until the end of the year by filibustering any vote on changing the organization of the Senate.
The reason this is different from 2001, when Jeffords jumped, is that the original organizing resolution for that Senate said that if there was a change in the majority party during that Senate, the power would be switched to the new majority. So no new vote was even needed after Jeffords switched to caucus with the Dems.

Indeed, maybe the GOP could get a few more Federal judges through.
