According to several Democrat political consultants presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Barack Obama spent part of his Hawaiian vacation working on weaning himself from a heavy dependence on teleprompters. Even in what are staged as "town hall" events for Obama, remarks are scripted or formatted into bullet points that scroll on teleprompter screens. Obama has had several embarrassing events where the teleprompter either malfunctioned or the screens were not fully visible.
"He just locks down and can't get the words out," says one political consultant. "For such a fine speaker, it's really quite remarkable that he's had issues."
Obama's troubles with unscripted moments contributed to his campaign's refusal to participate in town hall format debates or discussions with Sen. John McCain, who feels much more comfortable in the unscripted moments.

Bold words, cowards deeds.
Hides behind his adoring MSM’s skirt.
“For such a fine speaker, it’s really quite remarkable that he’s had issues.”
-I’m tired of hearing this...reading a teleprompter does not make you a fine speaker. If you cannot speak on a subject for 20 minutes extemporaneously, you are not a fine speaker. Cicero never had a teleprompter...hell, he didn’t even have index cards.
I heard some pollster, his name escapes me, on FOX News this morning. He called Obama a great orator. He’s been reading too many liberal news clippings. Without the prompter, Obama is lost. He’s a great prompter reader but that’s about it. He cannot think on his feet.
Obama is all fluff and no stuff. He has no substance or intellect. He is unable to do more than read from a teleprompter and yet the MSM keep saying how great he is.
Sounds like Obama is blue-screening like an errant PC.
Of Course, they held a Book.
They didn't use a TelePrompter.
And, in spite of the Drive-Bys years of smearing him, President Bush is great in a town-hall setting without a teleprompter. I've watched several such meetings, including some in the round, where he answers questions from audience members, and he is masterful at giving thoughtful answers and putting himself and the crowd at ease.
When the world gets some distance from "Bush Derangement Syndrome," it's going to realize what a good leader he has been.
I can't stand either Obama or Bill Clinton. But Clinton has a certain charm, even if you do feel the need to bathe after listening to him.
I've heard Obama-lama-ding-dong speak both with and without the Magic Teleprompter, and he comes across like a bag of bricks. What am I missing?
There's no there there. Is everyone just so ecstatic that he doesn't sound like a blood from the 'hood that they overvalue his speaking abilities? Someone enlighten me, please.
The Dims are really crazy. They are afraid the Townhall format, yet they call their convention a “Townhall Meeting”?
“For such a fine speaker, it’s really quite remarkable that he’s had issues.”
Is this guy serious?! Uhbama the Teleprompter Kid a “fine speaker”? He is the ultimate gaffe-meister. I don’t want to ruin my keyboard again.
Frank Luntz? He has had his nose pretty far up Obama’s ass.
I was thinking the same thing when I read this: Dubya is GREAT on the stump. He is completely authentic.
Exactly! That’s the guy. I couldn’t remember his name. He doesn’t impress me much.
I agree. And it’s a shame that a man as intelligent as President Bush has been smeared by his mental inferiors as an idiot. Just for starters, idiots don’t learn to fly jets. I know he has enough self-confidence that it probably doesn’t bother him-he probably laughs it off, if he ever gives it a thought-but it makes me mad on his behalf. I haven’t agreed with everything he’s done, but he’s head and shoulders above the people who’ve tried to destroy him or belittle him.
If Obama is scared to have a discussion with McCain, how can he possibly meet with world leaders like Chavez, Putin, or al-Assad?
IMHO, McCain made a big mistake not holding Obama to this. McCain should have made a list of locations and times and pushed Obama to show up.
