Members of the carpenters union in New York City have ruined any chance that authorities there will take their union out of government oversight by beating unconscious William Davenport, a union dissident running for office in the union.

After an August 5 candidates forum, the candidate was beaten by members of the carpenters union audience outside a church. Outside a CHURCH!

This thuggery along with continued Mob involvement, indictments and convictions on corruption of union members convinced Judge Charles S. Haight, Jr. not to release the union from government oversight....

And “card check” will make

“voting for union membership easier”.

Yeah, if by “easy” you mean that it’s “easier” to make the decision for unionization when you’re physically threatened.

Kinda makes me very sympathetic to any contractor in New York who picks up illegal aliens at Home Depot to do carpentry work on a job site.

I am having such a difficult time understanding why union membership drops every year. Can anyone explain this?

Of course, we can reverse this declension by electing Barack (No Peace be upon his unmentionable middle name) Obama...

Don't forget that Obama wants to end oversight of the Chicago Teamsters Union. Though in typical fashion he now tries to deny that he wants this.

"The Labor Department’s seven-year effort to improve financial reporting and disclosure by unions could come to a screeching halt once President Bush leaves office.

Sen. Barack Obama’s support for ending federal oversight of the Teamsters is the clearest indication yet of how a Democratic administration would treat labor unions.

And Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid want to do away with secret union ballots and go with a show of hands instead.

I guess there is another carpenter's adage among the union:

Measure once, beat multiple times.

In the past 6 years 800 corrupt union officials have been convicted by the US DOJ. Over $100 million in illegally spent dues money have been recovered.
Since 1975 union violence has resulted in the deaths of 203 Americans. 5,869 incidents of personal injury, and more than 6,435 incidents of vandalism and tens of millions of dollars in property damage have resulted from union violence.
Hence the need for all to support The Freedom from Union Violence Act which would close the loophole in the Hobbs Act. This Act would apply the Hobbs Act to all Americans and not exempt union officials seeking to advance so-called “legitimate union objectives.”

My son is a member of that union, on a job in Manhattan and (I believe) attended the meeting. He hasn’t mentioned the incident.

I’ll ask him about it this evening.

“any contractor in New York who picks up illegal aliens at Home Depot to do carpentry work “
I wonder how often that happens in New York. Because I would think that “any contractor in New York who picks up illegal aliens at Home Depot to do carpentry work “ would be risking his own life. The union thugs would not like that at all!
