The daughter of British former prime minister Margaret Thatcher tells how her mother's dementia has left her struggling to remember the simplest facts in book extracts published Sunday. Carol Thatcher wrote that, on her worst days, her mother struggles to finish sentences but shows occasional glimpses of her old self, particularly when talking about her time in Downing Street.
"I had always thought of her as ageless, timeless and 100 percent cast-iron damage-proof," Carol Thatcher wrote in her memoir, "A Swim-On Part In The Goldfish Bowl", which was serialised in the Mail on Sunday newspaper.
"Whereas previously you never had to say anything to her twice because she'd already filed it away in her formidable memory bank, Mum started asking the same questions over and over again, unaware she was doing so."

This is so sad. Lately my job as a nurse aide is getting depressing because I think dementia is so unfair to people who lead such good lives. Meanwhile, Fidel Castro takes a licking and keeps on ticking!

Very sad news. I had only heard of a stroke and had no idea she suffered from dementia.

As with Reagan - Lady Thatcher - suffering from the cruelest of the blows of aging.....
But nothing will change the FACTS of their heroism when the world needed them so badly!

Golda Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel on March 17, 1969, after serving as Minister of Labour and Foreign Minister. She was described as the "Iron Lady" of Israeli politics years before the epithet became associated with British prime minister, Margaret Thatcher.

God bless you for the work you do! I lost my parents in 01 and 02. Nothing was ever more difficult than watching them go downhill. Emphazema, and Lukemia are ugly critters, as there is nothing you can do, except to help them through their daily needs, and medications. Watching the mental capacity slip is such a tough ride. When they tell you the same story for the tenth time in less than half a day, smile, and say that it was the first time you'd heard that. It won't hurt, and they felt better for it.
God bless Lady Thatcher, and her daughter, a friend, and ally to America!

You’ve got that wrong. Fidel Castro is as crazy as a loon these days. They never let him out in public. He has no mind left and what he does have they have to keep hidden. He has very severe brain damage from the poison given to him on a visit to South America.

It’s such a tragedy when great people like Lady Thatcher and Ronald Reagan get this terrible disease.
