A crush of media that could reach up to 20,000 and will include a host of local broadcast notables is descending on Denver for this weeks Obama Dem-fest - the biggest contingent of journalists ever to converge on the Mile High City.
By comparison, the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City drew 10,000 media members, while Pope John Paul IIs visit to Denver more than a decade ago had 3,000. It adds up to mega-coverage, from print to online to TV and radio.
The TV networks are sending the big guns to the Democratic National Convention, with Katie Couric, Charles Gibson and Brian Williams anchoring their major evening newscasts from Denver.
NBC, ABC and CBS are planning an hour of prime-time convention coverage from 10 to 11 p.m. each night this week. The Republicans will also get an hour when they rally next month in St. Paul, Minn.
The networks and cable channels are promising wall-to-wall coverage that will be constantly updated on the tube and online. David Chalian, the political director at ABC News, said theres a big appetite. What we saw during the nomination season was an unprecedented level of interest in this election, Chalian said. You have an American electorate looking for whats next.
NBC, MSNBC and MSNBC.com are promising 200 hours of live coverage of both conventions. Boston College graduate Luke Russert, son of the late Meet the Press anchor Tim Russert, has been tapped to report on youth issues for NBC News. Tom Brokaw will moderate the Sunday morning staple from both conventions.
Weve seen during the primary season that interest has been at historic levels, said MSNBC spokesman Jeremy Gaines.

Media nitwits will make up almost half the crowd at Barry's coronation speech.
Get those DVRs warmed up.
Zakeet, the pic and phrase sez it all. Kudos.
I think of it more as a mile high dog pile.
Where are all these people going to sleep, defecate, shower and eat? I would hate to be on a plane leaving Denver after this is over - the stench will be awful.
They can make a movie about this, I have the perfect title:
“Things to Do In Denver When You’re Brain Dead.”
Fox News has been showing off their digs in an anandoned eatery. They will have 400 people there.
Fox News had better hire Blackwater to provide security. You just know the leftist scum are going to target them.
Carville-coached and ready!
denver’s my home town and i hope these slime balls don’t mess it up.
still, one of the nicest big cities in the u.s., even if i say so!
i like that!
remember a couple of years ago when the los angeles police clubbed a bunch of rioters and some of them turned out to be baby boomer journalists?
Media nitwits will make up almost half the crowd at Barry's coronation speech.
HAHAHAHAHA! My exact thought as well! With that many media personnel around they can make Mr. Hussein appear as though he is about to begin speaking of "the law and the prophets and how he is here "to fulfill them." On the other hand Mr. Hussein may not need any assistance in making such a speech (other than a teleprompter).
200 hours at both conventions, huh? If that’s total, I suspect it’s 195 hours at the Dem show and 5 hours at the Republican event (spent mostly outside showing the Dim protesters).
Oh goody. This isn’t going to be fun.
What a goat rope!
