Fallen Soldiers Come Home Saturday August 23, 2008 CityNews.ca Staff Three fallen soldiers returned home Saturday evening, their flag-draped caskets arriving at CFB Trenton aboard a military transport plane.

Sergeant Shawn Eades, 33; Sapper Stephan Stock, 25; and Corporal Dustin Wasden, 25; were killed when an improvised explosive device went off near their patrol vehicle in the Zhari district Thursday.

The soldiers were all with 12 Field Squadron, 1 Combat Engineer Regiment based out of Edmonton.

Another soldier was wounded in the attack and is recovering.

The military plane landed to a solemn reception, which included Governor General Michaelle Jean and Chief of Defence Staff General Walter Natynczyk.

A motorcade was greeted by dozens of community members who stood on overpasses as it made its way down the Highway of Heroes. Those who turned out for the impromptu showing of support on the Henry Street and Brock Street bridges hoped that their presence would be of some comfort.

"I have sons that are 31 and 28 and I can't imagine them going off to war let alone being over there, losing their life, and not coming home again," said Janet Kauk.

"It's a spontaneous outpouring of support. It wasn't organized by the town or the province or by the federal government. This is people who have spontaneously come out to show that they really care," explained Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, who turned out with one of the groups.

They are the 91st, 92nd and 93rd Canadian troops to die since the dangerous Afghan military mission began in 2002. Our mission, originally slated to end next year, was extended after a vote in Parliament last March. We're now scheduled to remain in Afghanistan until 2011.

Salute from an American to these fallen Canadian soldiers. God bless them, take them, and comfort their families.

Speaking of fallen heroes, here in Vermont, we will be dedicating a Memorial to the fallen heroes from the Vt National Guard in a few weeks.

I have nothing personal to do with this, other than as a Nam Vet, I felt compelled to donate in order to help honor fallen comrades and brother in arms.

That and the fact that my neighbor (a really super nice guy) is the highest ranking NCO in the guards and who recently returned from his 2nd tour in Afganistan.

If anyone wants to check this out, here is the site:

THE VERMONT NATIONAL GUARD FALLEN HEROES MEMORIAL

PS As a Freeper (and Vermonter) I apologize in advance for anyone who visits for having to suffer thru an Intro by our own, Senator Patrick (Far Left, Socialist, Media Whore, Gassbag) Leahy.

John Wort Hannam, a Canadian folk singer who is great, has a song called, “Infantryman” about a Canadian soldier coming home draped in the maple leaf.

Listening to it now...with tears in my eyes.

May God bless them and keep them, and may He comfort their courageous families. We will never forget those who have sacrificed to keep us safe and free.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

From "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon
