How about the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and USS Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group? Carrier groups include destroyers, and carriers aren't exactly meant to be the Good Ship Lollypop.

I don't see “strike group”, I see one destroyer designed to take on anything it its path until help arrives.

Both groups you cited were just that-groups. Did they have real cargo capacity? Did they have heavy lift helicopters? Did they have landing craft capability? Did they have support craft? Did they have huge manpower capacity?
