Not all the decent, honourable people who fought in the wermacht were fighting under duress, many were fighting in the defence of their homeland, which is a legitimate and understandable thing especially when you consider that they had no real way of knowing that liberation by foreign forces would be better, and in the case of the invading Russians, a hell of a lot worse....
I have no doubt that the Taliban feel that they are ‘fighting in defense of their homeland’ but this does not impart validity to the notion of Western media outlets wanting to expend broadcast time ‘eploring and highlighting their humanity’ any more than it would have been appropriate for the BBC to validate and applaud the Nazi effort because some were ‘fighting for the fatherland’.
I would expect such sentiment from Al-Jazeera during wartime, not from a Western media outlet that ‘should’ be primarily concerned with victory for our side.
I don’t think it’s the same thing as applauding the Taliban efforts to re-introduce their bonkers fundamentalist policy, more about trying to remind us that people within the Taliban are human too. Perhaps the way that she said it implies that she wants to put across a pro-taliban slant, but I doubt that was her intention...
Everyone knows that we are all human, but in the matter of the war on terror we have a clear case of good versus evil, and spending time focusing on the supposed ‘humanity’ of the Taliban serves only to invigorate and embolden the enemy, as well as the enemy’s supporters and fellow-travellers here in the West. A soldier cannot worry about the ‘feelings’ and ‘humanity’ of his or her enemy, as this interferes with his or her job which is to kill the enemy, break his stuff and gain victory.
A journalist’s realm is within the arena of words, and those words must be used properly in order to convey the intended meaning. Fretting over the supposed ‘humanity’ of our enemy, who are at this very moment bent upon killing our sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters does nothing other than give them aid and comfort, and in saner times there was a word for this: Treason.
There is nothing human about a monster with the morals of a reptile.
"That's exactly why we want to produce this play. To show the world the true Mullah Omar, the Mullah Omar you loved, the Mullah Omar you knew, the Mullah Omar with a song in his heart."

That’s because BBC Presenter, the Taliban has none.
I remember that well, and my guess is that their only regret is in not using more explosives and destroying anything and everything that suggested that there just might be another point of view than their own.
I confess that I haven't watched ANY ('gasp'!) of the DNC coverage so far, owing to the fact that it seems that I can usually think of something more worthwhile and pressing to do with my time than that (" Gee, have I REALLY alphabetized the soup cans in my cupboard absolutely as well as I possibly could have? Let's check them again...." or "hmmm....is having the toilet paper dispense over the top of the roll and terminate in a 2-crease pointed fold REALLY the way they do it at the Ritz Carlton, or is that just a myth perpetrated by Motel 6? I better look it up on the internet and check that.....").
However, I'm guessing that in terms of actual substance there will be far more of that coming from even the most deranged Taliban member than any of the speakers at the DNC. Just my hunch :-)
They CAN'T present it, because the Taliban HAS none.
Everybody else is the Taliban except for the Taliban.
Deport this guy to Afghanistan.
