“In fact, if the bishops are silent now, we can expect to see the lawsuits start, against churches that refuse to “marry” gays, against Catholic institutions that won’t perform abortions, against, in short, any aspect of the Church that conflicts with the liberal fascist program.”

There are an awful lot of “seamless garment/social justice” bishops out there.

Unfortunately - it appears that bishops like Burke, i.e. Bishops actually willing to go out on a limb and publicly fight for the unborn - are in the minority.

There are a whole lot of cultural democrat catholics who just don’t want to think about abortion (don’t want to be “one issue” voters)

I would like to be proven wrong - but look around. What do you see?

In my parish bulletin this Sunday, there was a little blurb on a voter website put up by the Florida bishops. It urged us to go to the website to find out where the candidates stood on “the important Catholic issues, such as the death penalty, war and immigration.” Not a mention of abortion, which actually is a Catholic issue (unlike the other matters the bishops named). They’ve been very effective at confusing Catholics and watering down their moral sense with this “seamless garment” theory.
