Road to the Rockies: Kennedy to Take the Stage
New York Times ^ | 8/25/2008 | Jeff Zeleny

While Michelle Obama may be the featured speaker at the first night of the party’s convention, she will have some new high-profile Democrats as warm-up acts.

The program on Monday evening was intended to pay tribute to the Kennedys, with Senator Edward M. Kennedy set to appear in a videotaped message. But senior campaign aides confirmed that Mr. Kennedy is planning to be on stage in person, making his biggest public appearance since he was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

It is sure to be a night steeped in high emotion for Mr. Kennedy, a large assembly of his family that is on hand in Denver and for thousands of Democrats inside the convention hall. Mr. Kennedy helped change the dynamic of the party’s nominating fight when he endorsed Mr. Obama seven months ago, an embrace that fueled a narrative that Mr. Obama is helping to carry on the Kennedy legacy.

Senator Barack Obama will not be on stage to see Mr. Kennedy, but he will appear briefly via satellite inside the convention hall from Kansas City, Mo....

When will Ted Kennedy step down from Congress? He no longer can represent the people of his state.

How about Byrd or that guy from S. Dakota who suffered the stroke? They should have stepped down as well. What a joke. It shows how little senators actually do. The country would be better off without all of them.

Say, is Mary Jo making an appearance with Teddy? No? I didn’t think so. She’s still dead.

I'm probably seeing something that isn't there, but that headline "Road to the Rockies" may be a hint that the NYT does not expect this week to go very Smooooooothly for the Democrats.

I think Obama faces a rocky road. Maybe the NYT and I agree for once.

I hope Senator Kennedy hold on to his seat for as long as possible. Even if he dies, I hope the people of Massachusetts will insist on him keeping his seat. He's done a better job of representing American interests after his diagnosis with terminal cancer than he ever did before.

Wow, that was weird. I posted an img src for the triathalon and then this demon photo of Obama appears instead. I did not mean to post the Obama demon so if the mods want it off, please do so.

Convention chairperson; "The chair recognizes the representative from Chappaquiddick."

Expect Ole Teddy to not feel very good in the mile high city. So soon after a craniotomy and having to deal with pressure changes at that altitude will not be a pleasant experience for him. He may find that a bottle of J&B and a handful of Perocodans just don’t do the trick like they used to.

“Convention chairperson; “The chair recognizes the representative from Chappaquiddick.”

Ha, ha, priceless! If only it would happen...

I stole it.

Back in the 70s, National Lampoon(?) had that as a caption on a cartoon. It showed the chairman with gavel raised as a seaweed bedecked, dripping spectre in a torn dress with a ‘Chappaquiddick’ sign struggled toward the podium from the convention floor.

No kidding? I should have remembered that. Maybe it was lurking in the deep recesses of my old brain, because I kept having this idea of someone taking over the Ted Kennedy video (when they said he would just appear in video message) and substituting the image of a drenched, seaweed draped woman saying, “I’m still dead.”

Wow, the old NL had some good stuff. (And some very naughty stuff.)

There is a distinct possibility that you have hotlinked an image from a web site that doesn't allow hotlinking. This means that the web page owner can change the picture to whatever he wants. Why? because you are stealing HIS bandwidth by linking to a picture without any page visits. I suggest you GOOGLE for hotlinking to see what has been said about it.
