All of us driven by a simple belief that the world as it is just won't do -- that we have an obligation to fight for the world as it should be.

And that is the thread that connects our hearts. That is the thread that runs through my journey and Barack's journey and so many other improbable journeys that have brought us here tonight, where the current of history meets this new tide of hope.

That is why I love this country.

And in my own life, in my own small way, I've tried to give back to this country that has given me so much. That's why I left a job at a law firm for a career in public service, working to empower young people to volunteer in their communities. Because I believe that each of us -- no matter what our age or background or walk of life -- each of us has something to contribute to the life of this nation.

There have been memorable things said at modern political conventions.

Barry Goldwater 1964: “Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice…”

Richard Nixon 1968: “The great majority of Americans, the forgotten Americans -- the non-shouters; the non-demonstrators.”

Ronald Reagan 1980-84-88: Every speech that man gave was extraordinary.

George H.W. Bush 1988: “Read my lips, no new taxes.” (Memorable as a pledge not lived up to)

Ann Richards 1992: “Poor George. He can’t help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth.”

Pat Buchanan 1992: “A cultural war, as critical to the kind of nation we will one day be as was the Cold War itself.”

Dick Cheney 2000: “Help is on the way.” (Indeed it was)

Rudy Giuliani 2004: “Thank God that George Bush is our president.”

In 2008, we have Michelle Obama at the Democratic Party convention in Denver. “I love this country,” Mrs. Obama says -- remarkable.

Not only has she called America “a downright mean country”, but she famously said that only now, as her husband is running for President, “For the first time in my life, I’m really proud of my country.”

Michelle Obama was born in 1964. By her own words:

When Neil Armstrong walked on the Moon, Michelle Obama wasn’t really proud of America.

When America celebrated 200 years of Independence, Obama wasn’t really proud of America.

When Ronald Reagan said, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall,” Obama wasn’t really proud of America.

When, a few years later, that wall came tumbling down, Obama wasn’t really proud of America.

When Americans liberated tiny Kuwait from the tyranny of Saddam Hussein, Obama wasn’t really proud of America.

When President Bush stood on rubble with a bullhorn and proclaimed “the people who knocked these buildings down will hear from all of us soon,” Obama wasn’t really proud of America.

When the ones who knocked those buildings down barely escaped with their lives as they heard from all of us and ran into the mountains, Obama wasn’t really proud of America.

So now, Michelle Obama makes her mark on modern convention history with the words “I love this country”. Any other of a candidate’s spouses could have said this and it would not be remarkable.

Had Pat Nixon said it, everyone would say OK. Had Betty Ford or Rosalynn Carter said, “I love this country”, sure. Nothing more natural or expected could come in a statement from Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, or even Kitty Dukakis and Joan Mondale.

But, now Michelle Obama says, “I love this country.” Really?

The world has been just fine, but under constant attack by the left. They can’t stand the most successful country in history would be happy to see it’s demise. What, then, would they do?

Maybe they can tell the Canadians what to do with 500 TONNES of yellow cake uranium? Apparently the USA getting NUKED is not worth fighting for, for them!

I am very disappointed there is no shout out to her Reverend and the Trinity Church that she attended for the last 20 years.....After all they taught her how and why she “loves” her country too.

Yep, that was Michelle’s speech all right, complete with mangled syntax and resentment for all that this country isn’t:

“At 6-foot-6, I’ve often felt”
“a wife who loves my husband”
“into me and Craig”
“America should be a place where you can make it if you try.”
“we settle for the world as it is — even when it doesn’t” “reflect our values and aspirations”
“to strive for the world as it should be. And isn’t that the great American story?”
“the world as it is just won’t do”
“finally bring the change we need”

What, then, would they do?

Turn on each other, of course. For those who believe the world can be perfected through their efforts, it will never be perfect enough.

Does that mean going after those that attack & murder us, or does that mean just scheduling a sit down to talk about our feeeeeeeeeelings with them, hmmm?

God helps us all!

After Michelle said “I love America,” she paused and then suddenly an almost imperceptible dead and defiant look came over her face. My husband and I rewound it several times to be sure of what we saw and it was pure hatred. If anyone recorded this, take a look.

She has a nasty edge to her which makes Hillary look soft. I would imagine that she tells Barack what to think and when to think it.

I think that left to a natural state, she would be very directing , and as your point out a match for Hill.

Seems to me that she does overly influence Barry O B......

Almost like he does things to comply with her wishes, not his own thinking.

I really hate to have to say this, but I think Michelle hit a home run.

Until she spoke, the Democrats had bombed bigtime. The whole convention was a turnoff.

Teddy Kennedy was a boring old fatso. I can't even remember what he blathered about. The MSM headlines that he "ELECTRIFIED" everyone--or someone--or anyone--were laughable.

Caroline Kennedy came across as a nitwit.

The whole mess was corny.

But Michelle knocked one out of the ballpark. She masterfully nullified her previous gaffes--e.g.: "And this is why I love my country SO MUCH."

It came across well--just as she intended. And she masterfully defanged such opponents as Hillary's supporters--e.g. she praised Hillary Clinton for smashing the glass ceiling etc.

Even I had to remind myself of what these people are really about!!! And what's really going ont!

Michelle's a formidable force.

If--may God forbid it--Obama should land in the White House, it will be because of

(1) the age old longing of the American people for the nightmare of racism to come finally to an end!

(2) The Republican's genius for snatching Defeat from the Jaws of Victory! And

(3) MIchelle!

However, when Obama appeared after Michelle's speach--he looked like a moron--definitely an anticlimax. That's encouraging.

Anybody who peers beneath the surface of this clown will run--not walk--to the polls to vote Republican!

Anybody who peers beneath the surface of Michelle will run even faster!!!

Yep michelle, those 20 years listening to the disaster pastor and “For the first time in my life I am proud of my country” make you love your country now.
