The Racism Excuse (Liberals gegin to blame Americans for Obama's fall in the polls)
The Wall Street Journal ^ | August 26, 2008

Things are supposed to be looking rosy for Democrats this November. But in case Barack Obama loses the Presidency, an excuse is all ready to go: America's too racist to elect a black man. Not even, in his Vice Presidential pick Joe Biden's inimitable description, one so "articulate and bright and clean."

This narrative has gained traction with the Democratic Presidential candidate's recent setbacks in the polls. We hear it from the convention crowd in Denver and liberals in the press. The older, poorer, white, often Hillary voter who sounds ambivalent about the Obama coronation is an enticing scapegoat.

"Call me crazy, but isn't it possible, just possible, that Obama's lead is being inhibited by the fact that he is, you know, black?" wrote John Heilemann in New York magazine earlier this month. "What makes Obama's task of scoring white votes at Kerry-Gore levels so formidable is, to put it bluntly, racial prejudice."

In this week's Newsweek (and on Slate), Jacob Weisberg reasoned that only some "crazy irrationality over race" could prevent Mr. Obama from winning the White House. If he does win, America will have reached post-prejudice Nirvana. "If Obama loses, our children will grow up thinking of equal opportunity as a myth," Mr. Weisberg continued. "To the rest of the world, a rejection of the promise he represents wouldn't just be an odd choice by the United States. It would be taken for what it would be: sign and symptom of a nation's historical decline." Wow. Vote for Barack, or America is as irredeemable as many foreigners believe.

Part and parcel of this argument is that Republicans are bound to play the race card. The Democratic candidate made this case himself in late June. "They're going to try to make you afraid

I am totally fed up with being accused of racism simply because I won't be voting for him. These accusations will ultimately bring more votes over to McCain. I would, in a New York minute, vote for a Black who shared my ideology. The Dems have split their party into so many special interest groups that it will be nearly impossible to get BHO into the White House. You can't please all the special interest groups all the time. Accusing those who don't want him there due to his ideology of being racist is just plain stupid.

Cue Captain Renard... I’m Shocked! SHOCKED!!! that the Democrats would play racial politics!

The fact of the matter is the Barack Obama is far to the Left if the electorate. The Democrats would have done better to nominate a centrist.

There is nothing that says that if a black man runs for President, we have to vote for him. If the majority of the people don’t want a black man for President, that is their right. I think that what is happening is that the American people don’t want “THIS BLACK MAN” for their President.

I think the Wilder Effect will be out in full force in November.

People will be so sick and tired by then.

Spelled his name wrong. Sorry. I've actually met him a couple of times, and he's an even bigger tool than he looks like he might be.

Personally, I would prefer Michael Steele over Mitt Romney. Could it be that I am prejudiced against Mormons? Oh, I am SOOOO disgusted with myself right now...

Not only that - when Obama loses, I am sure you will see riots in Compton, Detroit, Oakland, and who knows where else.

The MSM is unwilling to admit what most democrats are now thinking. They have an unelectable potential nominee. The convention is beginning to take on the look of a defeat before the election.

Were it possible to put Hillary in Husseins place, I believe they would. However, the unintended consequence in terms of race riots is even more than the Clintons may wish for at this point. Looks like 2012 may be their next shot....

I like Michael Steele, too. The drawback to him, as I understand talk show hosts, is that he lost his last election. If he had won his Senate race he would be poised to be on the ticket. He needs to run for something again and win. I supported Mitt Romney in the primaries but I'm not sure how divisive he'd be on the ticket with McCain. There are a lot of quotes from him during the primaries that Obama could use against McCain. Pinocchio anyone? (reference to the WashPost)

This jerk thinks he can work his affirmative action trick all the way from Indonesia right into the White House. Yeah, OK. Obama will kill affirmative action in America even as he goes down to defeat. History will be made this Fall. We will historically throw down the yoke of White Guilt and historically become a nation that judges individuals not on the color of their skin but on the content of their character. And by that measure, Obama loses to McCain. Nuf Sed.

I agree that some people might not vote for him because of race, but there are also some who will vote for him precisely because of his race.

Obama is very liberal. As left wing as Hillary Clinton is, Hillary was actually the more conservative candidate in their primary battle. They make it sound like you don’t consider the ideology or the record of a minority candidate, that you are only supposed to consider the color of the skin, or in the case of women, their womanhood.

Liberals oppose Justice Clarence Thomas because he's an 'Uncle Tom', but they insist they only hate him for his judicial philosophy.

However, if you aren't voting for Obama, you're a racist because no-one in their right mind could POSSIBLY be against Obama's socialist political philosophy.

Liberals are drug-addled adolescent retards. This is proof.
