WASHINGTON - Some 63% of Americans supports a preemptive Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, should the international community's diplomatic efforts to curb its nuclear development fail, a recent poll held by the Israel Project revealed Thursday.
The survey indicated a growing concern in the US of the possibility that Iran would be able to possess actual nuclear capabilities: About 87% of those polled said a nuclear Iran will pose a threat to the US and 96% believe it would be of imminent threat to Israel.
Furthermore, 90% said that should Iran possess nuclear weapons it may sell them, or their technology to terror organizations. An additional 80% said they did not believe Iran was pursuing nuclear technology for sheer ability and that Tehran is likely to make use of it.
When asked what should or could be done to stop the Iranian nuclear program in its tracks, a majority of those polled said they supported a military strike against the Islamic Republic, should all diplomatic efforts fail.
Israelis... Doing the jobs Americans don’t want to do.
Iran constantly tells the world that they are a threat to Israel, they are very clear on that. To convince 96% of the people on anything, you have to really be convincing. Ahmadinejad has been warning everyone for years that he is a threat to Israel, and it seems people believe his sincerity.
Pesky American citizens again, refusing to follow the left-wing line.
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
If they do strike Iran, we better elect a President that can handle what follows and I don’t Obama is the man.
63% is a high percentage in favor of a strike, but I’m surprised it’s this low.

Given my low opinion of how informed the US public is, I would love to see a follow up - If OUR gas prices were to rise x$ (1 2 whatever) as a result of such a strike, would you still support such military action?
I would think it drops well below 50%.
Obama would give Iran all of our nuclear secrets as a show of good faith that we trust them and want to be their friend.
I’m surprised that it is only 63%.
In the past, it has been over 80% that supported Israel’s self protection. Only the standard ‘progressive’ 18% has ever been opposed.
A strike on Iran would cause a significant drop in oil prices. It’s Iran’s threatening posture that has been the biggest factor in the rise in oil prices.
I am one of those 63%.
Have at it!
are these same people for obama or McCain.
In terms of Israel, Likud leadership is required to quickly replace the corrupt appeasers currently lingering on.
One of those blew up a satellite recently. Not bottle rockets.
well assuming a positive mid-term resolution, yes, discounting the long-term fall in the dollar. (which is a lot of the problem)
Most (77% or 38% of all adults) favor an attack if "Saddam Hussein does not allow weapons inspectors to find and destroy weapons of mass destruction."

how many of the eager bombers will stick around for day after it all gets lit up
or will they scour the landscape for hope and change and other empty slogans
but such is life
And no doubt a large majority of Israelis favors a US strike on Iran. Its always nice when someone else volunteers to take out the trash.
