It's 10 AM. A Phone Is Ringing. And Obama Has to Apologize for 'Hair Trigger' Response
Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 08/30/2008 5:10:32 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

It was more like 10 AM than 3 AM. Somewhere, a phone was ringing to announce the news that John McCain had selected Sarah Palin as his running mate. And Barack Obama's operation immediate response was intemperate and inappropriate. Obama found himself apologizing, calling the reaction "hair trigger." He and Biden subsequently made the more gracious kind of comment that should have been made in the first place. Senators get to "revise and extend" their remarks when they've said something dumb on the floor. That's not always the case for presidents. A "hair trigger" reaction to a real crisis could have disastrous consequences.

Said Obama spokesman Bill Burton snidely when the news broke:

"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies -- that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same."

Compare and contrast with the gracious, statesmanlike ad McCain aired on the day of Obama's acceptance speech.

Obama eventually realized that his campaign's intemperate reaction was out of line. According to the AP, Obama "blamed the mixed messages about McCain's choice, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, on campaign aides with a "hair trigger."

What does it say about Barack Obama that he has surrounded himself with these kind of aides? What does it say about Barack Obama that when his operation slips up, he blames his aides? Whatever happened to "the buck stops here?" What would happen if the phone rang in an Obama White House at 3 AM with news potentially much more lethal than the naming of a fine lady from Alaska?

Obama’s “hair trigger” response to ringing phone ping to Today show list.

Please note that the NewsBusters site appears down, so I’m posting this item as original content at FR.

So even the Obama campaign knows that McCain will win in November?! That's how I read this!

What you can’t convey is that it took him about five minutes to get out those 2 or 3 sentences, because of all the pauses and uh, uh, uh’s.

Count a few more bodies under the bus, because he threw a few staffers down there.

Excellent point. Obama has neither the experience nor temperament for the White House.

I’m starting to think that Barak Obama is not a nice person.

I can’t decide if the Obama campaign is the “Not Ready for Prime Time Players” or “The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight”.

We all know what it says about Obama. He's incompetent, inexperienced and unscrupulous.

Well written piece. I was having this exact discussion with an Obama supporter. Obama's braggadocio from Thursday night:

"If John McCain wants to have a debate about who has the temperament and judgment to serve as commander-in-chief, that's a debate I'm ready to have."

Who knows, maybe Putin and Ahmadinejad and Uncle Hugo will just laugh off "hair trigger" insults.

Does anyone else find it funny that a US Senator who can’t even remember on which committee he serves, who doesn’t even know who his state’s largest trading partner is, who claims that there are 57 states and who thinks that Canada has a President has the temerity to claim that our hot babe VP has zero experience? :)

Lay off Obama will ya? He’s just a kid with no experience. He’s trying hard and he sure does talk pretty.

“...a heartbeat away from the presidency.”

Wow. They really ARE running scared, aren’t they? LOL! And yet, the thought of that know-nothing, embarrassing loud-mouthed Nancy Pelosi being TWO heartbeats from the Presidency doesn’t bother them one bit!

Dorks.

And yet when McCain and Hussein did have a debate, McCain literally handed Hussein’s arrogant little rear end back to him.

Great point about Barack’s boast about “temperament and judgment”!! Wish I had included it in original article.

Wow... that's another thing Gov. Palin can do better than Hussein. ;)
