I see way too many bikers hanging out in the blind spots of cars. Bikers are like boaters, people with no skill or common sense buy them then ride like they own the road. Bikers, if you cannot see the eyes of the driver of a car or truck they cannot see you.
This is a tragic scenario.
And you probably have the Constitiutional right to not wear a helmet but you are an idiot if you don’t.

I saw a older guy, with a brand new big Harley. Pulled up to the gas pumps with the concrete island, went to lean and put his foot peg down, but it jammed on the raised island. Bike went over and he was stuck, squished against the gas pump, helmet breaking the display. We rushed over and helped him tilt up the bike. He said he always wanted one, and had had it for a few months. I'm guessing he was in his late 60’s. Probably a big strong guy in his youth, but physics doesn't care. Also, it's been my observation that no matter what you do, you are going to learn a lot from experience. The experience margin on bikes, like ultra-light aircraft, is very tight. I'm not knocking bike riding. But like in bear/lion training, don't feel that you are in control of an uncontrollable situation.
