To pursue an enemy that initiates the hostilities against a known border of long term position is playing into their hands. The attack might be meant to pull your unit across a border or into an ambush.
You have to call your own shots run your own ambushes/search and destroy missions according to your own reconnaissance/intelligence in the place and time of your choice.

I'm talking about Laos and the Yalu River, where restrictions handcuffed overt operations, not chasing indians into a blind canyon.
