I'll observe that "scholar" is not considered a qualification for the Presidency.

Their two criteria are combined years of Federal Office and/or state governorship. So Obama has 3.5 years in the Senate vs. Palin’s 1.5 as Governor. But most of Obama’s time in the Senate has been spent running for President and giving speeches. Palin has actually gotten stuff done in her briefer span.
