Pelosi: "Many Catholics do not ascribe to that view”
California Catholic Daily ^ | August 28, 2008 | Brendan Daly, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco,

Posted on 08/31/2008 7:04:46 AM PDT by kellynla

Brendan Daly, a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, issued the following statement yesterday from Denver, where the Democratic National Convention is under way.)

“Her views on when life begins were informed by the views of Saint Augustine, who said: ‘... the law does not provide that [abortion] pertains to homicide, for there cannot yet be said to be a live soul in a body that lacks sensation.’”

“While Catholic teaching is clear that life begins at conception, many Catholics do not ascribe to that view. The Speaker agrees with the church that we should reduce the number of abortions. She believes that can be done by making family planning more available, as well as by increasing the number of comprehensive age-appropriate sex education and caring adoption programs.”

There’s a word to describe Pelosi but I can’t write it.
She does not speak for Catholics or any Catholics for that matter.

She speaks for herself and her minions of evil.

Just saw a ref to an article on new side effects of Botox. Didn’t read it yet, but if stupidity is one of the side effects, how are we going to know with Pelosi? Gads, she is beyond stupid. We would need scientific notation to adequately bound her stupidity. Gads, I love it when someone opens their mouth and ventures totally outside their circle of competency. (Her circle of competency has an area of 2 Planck lengths) - libs, will have to look that one up.

It does not matter what other “catholics” say. LIFE BEGINS AT CONCEPTION PERIOD!!! As a Catholic, I agree with the church.

If FranNan does not agree she should leave the church and and take like minded catholics with her. I am sick of this. If you don’t like the church then leave you jerks.

Sorry lost it for a sec.

She must be excommunicated. I don’t get it. She is flatly challenging the churches teaching in a very public fashion.

She is no Catholic.

Then those people are "cultural" Catholics or the commonly mentioned "cafeteria" Catholics. In either case their decisions may or may nor affect them, only God can see into their souls, but in the case of Pelosi she appears to be instructing Catholics that there is another way that is better than Doctrine and Dogma of Holy Mother Church. She is consciously leading the Faithful astray. There is a name for that, Heresy. And it calls for that most serious consequence, public excommuication.

Some would say her beliefs have already resulted in excommunication, but her words are designed to assuage the consciences of Catholics who feel abortion may be acceptable then she must be publicly punished to demonstrate to all that what she says endangers the immortal soul of each Catholic who follows her lead.

Subscribing to a childish, selfish view because others are just as selfish as you does not make you correct, Nancy.

I've never seen such immature vapid wisdom in all my life!

Why doesn’t she join a church that has tenets she believes in? Why must she consistently emarass the Catholic church and other Catholics?

This is what I think liberals hold against people like Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin—people who actually follow the values to which they ascribe.

When she says “many Catholics don’t subscribe to those views” then the obvious question is are they really Catholics. I believe the start of Protestant religions was because they protested against many Catholic doctrines. Therefore, I would suggest to Ms.Pelosi that she really isn’t a Catholic. I would also suggest thet Senators Kerry and Biden who are Pro Choice are in the same category.

Interesting that a "spokesman" issued this statement and not Nancy... anyways... I call BS and like others on this board... the Church should ex-communicate the crone...

The best description I’ve seen on the origin of life is that human life as created by God, is composed of body, soul, and spirit.

Biological bodily life begins at conception, soul life begins at birth from the womb (God given), and spirit life begins upon the regeneration of the human spirit by God.

This nicely explains stillbirth, which means the biological life had begun and was formed, but never received soul life.

This would not require the removal of the admonishment and prohibition on killing the fetus, a living human body, but it also doesn’t confuse the issue of what exactly is being killed.

“She is no Catholic?”

Well lets no confuse practicing Catholics with CINO’s.

“No Communion for pro-abortion Catholics, says Archbishop Burke”

California Catholic Daily

Rome, Aug 19, 2008 / (CNA) — Archbishop Raymond Burke, prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, the highest judicial authority of the Holy See, said this week that Catholics who publicly support abortion — especially politicians — should not receive Communion, and that ministers of Communion should be responsibly charitable in denying it to them if they ask for it “until they have reformed their lives.”

[[Burke082108.jpg]]In an interview with the magazine Radici Christiane, Archbishop Burke pointed out that there is often a lack of reverence at Mass when receiving Communion. “Receiving the Body and Blood of Christ unworthily is a sacrilege,” he warned. “If it is done deliberately in mortal sin it is a sacrilege.”

To illustrate his point, he referred to “public officials who, with knowledge and consent, uphold actions that are against the Divine and Eternal moral law. For example, if they support abortion, which entails the taking of innocent and defenseless human lives. A person who commits sin in this way should be publicly admonished in such a way as to not receive Communion until he or she has reformed his life,” the archbishop said.
“If a person who has been admonished persists in public mortal sin and attempts to receive Communion, the minister of the Eucharist has the obligation to deny it to him. Why? Above all, for the salvation of that person, preventing him from committing a sacrilege,” he added.

“We must avoid giving people the impression that one can be in a state of mortal sin and receive the Eucharist,” the archbishop continued. “Secondly, there could be another form of scandal, consisting of leading people to think that the public act that this person is doing, which until now everyone believed was a serious sin, is really not that serious — if the Church allows him or her to receive Communion.”

“If we have a public figure who is openly and deliberately upholding abortion rights and receiving the Eucharist, what will the average person think? He or she could come to believe that it up to a certain point it is okay to do away with an innocent life in the mother’s womb,” he warned.

Archbishop Burke also noted that when a bishop or a Church leader prevents an abortion supporter from receiving Communion, “it is not with the intention of interfering in public life but rather in the spiritual state of the politician or public official who, if Catholic, should follow the divine law in the public sphere as well.

“Therefore, it is simply ridiculous and wrong to try to silence a pastor, accusing him of interferi ng in politics so that he cannot do good to the soul of a member of his flock,” he stated.

And as Peggy Noonan said, anyone who has ever bought a pack of condoms knows when life begins.
