MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia does not want confrontation with the West but will hit back if attacked, Kremlin leader Dmitry Medvedev said on Sunday, a day before EU leaders meet to draft a response to Moscow's actions in Georgia.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said he would press fellow European Union leaders to review ties with Russia in retaliation for Moscow's decision to send troops to Georgia and recognize two Georgian breakaway regions.

Vladimir Vladimirovich,

Sara Palin has several bear pelts on her floor.

Hint given.

The bear is back. I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that an ex-kgb thug would stamp out freedom and put Russia on a more bellicose path. Still this is very helpful for McCain. Anything that puts emphasis on foreign policy and Obama’s complete lack of qualifications on those matters does help his campaign.

Russia is like your crazy, drunk uncle that your parents let live in the attic. You’d prefer not to see him at all, but the SOB has to take a leak every once in awhile so out of the attic he comes.

He stumbles about searching for the light switch and falls on his rear. He manages to get back up but then falls into the toilet ripping it out of the floor, causing waste and water to fly everywhere.

You rush to the bathroom to see what’s the matter only to find him sitting there looking up at you with a bottle of vodka in one hand and a shit-eating grin on his face.

You wish your parents would toss him out but he was the black sheep of the family for many years and your aging German mom, who grew-up reading Marx, just won’t hear of it.

Obviously, Russia (Medvedev) is feeling the heat and fury big time shown through the comments by Mr. Medvedev. Russia is feeling "surrounded" and possibly "ganged up on". The solution is really quite simple: Russia needs to withdraw its forces to WITHIN ACTUAL Russian borders. And then talk. Russia cannot admit it did wrongly by invading a sovereign country without acting like a bear.

Dear Messrs Medvedev and Putin:

Your people do wish to be united but they also wish to have free speech and to not be set upon as you've done in Georgia. There are ways for you to accomplish the ambitions and goals that you have for uniting Russians, for growing the economy and without resorting to making your citizens so fearful and always paranoid. Inducing these feelings in your citizens does the exact opposite of "uniting" and "growing an economy". Please rethink your approach.

Sincerely,

...Alia

Deputy says Russian police kill Web site owner

The Associated Press
Miami Herald

MOSCOW — The owner of an independent Web site critical of authorities was shot and killed Sunday by police in a volatile province in southern Russia, his colleague said.

Police arrested Ingushetiya.ru owner Magomed Yevloyev on Sunday, taking him off a plane that had just landed in Ingushetia province near Chechnya, said the site’s deputy editor, Ruslan Khautiyev.

Police whisked Yevloyev away in a car and later dumped him on the road with a gunshot wound in the head, Khautiyev said. He said Yevloyev died in a hospital shortly afterward.

Alia, thank you for posting the Magomed Yevloyev notice of his death.

This is not going to go away, they had a large protest in Ingu. today and are asking to be free of Russia.

I have it on the WT thread.

www.frontpagemag.com has articles today which you might find quite interesting.

I'm in the middle of reading this one now: Putin’s Useful Idiots

The recent war in Georgia announced the return of Russia as a ruthless power to be reckoned with. More disturbing still, it reminded the world of the return of a system that brutally eliminates those who dare to criticize its policies. The murder of anti-government journalist, Magomed Yevloyev, in Ingushetia by police on Sunday is just the latest indication that the Putin regime doesn't flinch to eliminate dissent in all of its forms.
