Pardon my ignorance, but hasn’t the media been telling us that the VP does nothing? That the job that Cheney has is just to take up space and leak things to the media? Why all of a sudden has this changed?

If the daughter had an illegitimate child and was living on welfare, I’d see hypocrisy.
Planning on marrying the father and being a self-supporting family is as good as the situation could get.
Adoption might also be a good option, but given the campaign coverage, I wouldn’t put it past some liberals to ensure even a closed adoption was thoroughly hunted down and aired.

>>>>>Actually, you made it an issue with your chosen screen name ...

Sounds like you're taking a cue from the jerks over at KOS and DU.

I'm still voting for McCain. However, this poor judgment on his part will effect the voting decision by many conservatives.

This author has no idea at all about ‘family values.’ I guess her view is to get your daughter on the pill and send her with your platinum card to the mall while you go to the spa.

Don't forget the "make her have an abortion should she get pregnant" part of the growing up ritual.

I indict Sally Quinn for cynicism and greed.

I do not need to add my voice to the 200 odd posts assailing Sally Quinn for her despicable article. My take is that she quite deliberately set out to provoke this reaction to stimulate readership in the face of falling subscription ratings at the Washington Post.

I believe she quite well understood the reaction she would generate and deliberately provoked it. That she would exploit the most intimate secrets of a 17-year-old girl was a consideration of no consequence to her.

Sally is now reveling in our indignation. She is laughing all the way to the bank. Her motivation was not political but financial

The idiots at the Washington Post gave Sally a column in the religious section and she is an admitted atheist.

Well then, if she takes it upon herself to pass judgment on Christians, she needs some Christian schooling so that she can understand what they are about. Starting out with the passages in the New Testament about "liars and hypocrites" who are all too ready to cast the first stone would be a good start.

“She met Benjamin C. Bradlee when she was a reporter at the Washington Post and he was Executive Editor. Although he was much older, she began sending him Anonymous love notes. After she had left the Post, they lived together for some years in the Watergate building. He told a reporter in 1973 that only way they would get married would be if a Polish pope was elected. When this “absurd” idea came true, they got married four days later.”

Quote from http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0703986/bio on Sally Quinn. She may not be the holiest one when she asks the mirror on the wall.

Obama and his surrogates trashed a pregnant 17 yr old girl by claiming that she was the real mother of Trig,
Sarah Palin’s Down’s Syndrome baby.
You would think Sally Quinn might have an ounce of compassion.
And would condemn Obama for this sleazy, slimy tactic.
Quinn’s one child ,17 yr old Quinn Bradlee has been sick most of his life.
He has VCFS, the second-most-common genetic syndrome after Down syndrome.
VCFS is the result of a random mutation that causes a small part of Chromosome 22 to be deleted.
More than 180 symptoms can be associated with VCFS, including learning disabilities, developmental delays, psychiatric disorders, immune disorders, congenital heart disease and cleft palate.
Shame ,shame on Quinn.
Obama is beyond shame for orchestrating this.

It’s always strange when secular types lecture us evangelicals on how evangelicals “should feel”.

They are never aware of how ridiculous they sound.

She certainly has been successful in her 44 years. But is she ready to be president? ...
-- Sally Quinn
She has two more years of experience in an executive branch of government than Obama.
... how can McCain call Barack Obama unqualified, inexperienced, not ready from Day One, not able to be commander in chief, and then put someone like Palin in a position that is a heartbeat away from the pesidency?
-- Sally Quinn
McCain can call Obama unqualified, inexperienced, not ready from day one, not able to be commander in chief - because he is just that. His only competency is being a puppet of Planned Parenthood. How can the Democrats put someone like Obama not a heartbeat away from the presidency -- but in the presidency -- when the only experience he really has is at being a docile P.P. puppet -- to the point of supporting infanticide (he opposed the Born Alive Infant Protection Act (requiring the care of infants born alive after induced-delivery abortions) and Partial Birth Abortion (the baby is completely born except for part of its head and its brain are then suctioned out to facilitate delivery). Yeah. That's who we need running the country -- a surrogate of the racist organization, Planned Parenthood, whose founder, Margaret Sanger had ties to the Nazi eugenics movement and advocated reducing the Black population.
But it [her 17 year old daughter's pregnancy] must certainly raise the question among the evangelical base about whether Sarah Palin has been enough of a hands-on mother.
-- Sally Quinn
The evangical base will be proud of her and her daughter for making the right decision -- to give birth to her baby. They will forgive the Palin family for something can and does happen in the best of families.

Sally, you are so far out of touch with the decent, compassionate Americans in this country that I can only assume that that is how you ended up with the Washington Post.

All the pleas from the Obama camp to keep wives and families out of the fray notwithstanding.

As if anyone listens to that hypocritical statement that Obama made.

No, no Sally. You have to remember that the Christian hick voters are uneducated and easy to command. The Christian conservative leader simply tell them to vote McCain and ignore the scandal and they will. And perhaps you need to go a little heavier on the nightly valium—from the columns of yours that I have read, it seems like pretty much everything shocks and angers you.

I think you're just trying to be funny so I don't want to take you too seriously but the fact is, it's not unheard of for some young men to do the right thing because they think it's the right thing. This doesn't have to involve death threats from his future father in law.

You've definitely been in San Francisco too long.

“Most folks are unwilling to speak the truth. I just spoke the truth. “

Most people seem to disagree with you about what is the political truth in this matter. And Reagan’s kids were more dysfunctional - should that have disqualified him?

If not, then why should McCain be disqualified for selecting Palin as a VP? How was it ‘bad judgment’? This long time Southern Baptist thinks it shows admirable character on McCain’s part - and I’ve loathed McCain for years!
