Never thought I’d witness this kind of thread on FR. Unmarried teens having unprotected sex with a pregnancy as a consequence is now something to be cheered and celebrated?

Well not exactly cheered and celebrated, but at least she didn't abort the kid, is living up to the consequences and marrying the father, I'll celebrate that any day.

Who is celebrating teen pregnancy?
We are talking about this story, and yes, some are happy they are keeping the baby and getting married. That deserves some praise.

How, precisely, do you think people should react? I don't see anyone yelling 'Way to go, Levi!'.

It is too late to keep them from getting pregnant. It would benefit no one to condemn them. And a baby should always be celebrated.

You’re not going to get much support here with comments like that.

American culture has become a cesspool. We can only take it back little by little. Celebrate the fact that in this cesspool Bristol is marrying the father and keeping her child.

That’s a MAJOR step - outside of your personal household, that is...

What do you propose? A fatwa, perhaps?

Young people loving too soon is not a new problem. Check your family tree. You sure there are no 7 lb premies? I prefer not to judge but use to use these two young people as a teaching example. You make a baby..you marry the mother and you raise your family. (I had all boys. Needs a little tweaking for my grand daughter:’)

I haven't seen anyone celebrating the situation, but, such things occur as a fact of life! Statistically, young marriages fail at a greater frequency than older marriages but, whether marriages endure is far more dependent upon the commitment of the parties. Plus, the statistics are faulty in that prior "hook-ups" and "shack-ups" are not revealed.

It has become commonplace in recent decades to just "shack up" and euphemistically claim to be "engaged" for the duration of the attraction (regardless of whether children are involved!))

No.

What we are cheering and celebrating is their courage and conviction in doing the right thing, and getting married, and choosing NOT TO ABORT the child.

And the tremendous family support Sarah and Todd are giving their daughter, and their soon to be son-in-law, and the as yet unborn child.

It’s not the mistakes we make in life, it’s the responsibility we take, or don’t, for them after.

I saw the threads about Jami Lynn Spears when she got pregnant, but never went on any of them. I wonder how the comments there correspond to the comments about Palin’s daughter?
