I hope you meant that in sarcasm.

Otherwise, you miss the point.

There is a real difference in lobbying for money through the front door and getting earmarks, which are essentially through the back door, or if I might be more to the point, under the table.

Did I read that the outlying community that Wasillo serves includes more than 70,000 additional people??

I don't see the problem! This just shows that she did her job. We received 10 million for a highway widening project in my town. Communities offset project costs with State and Federal funds. This is just an attempt to turn conservatives against her.

Uh...its still taxpayer money...

If you truly believe in smaller government and lower taxes...this 27 mil is bothersome, for a town of its size.

The federal government consistently constrains Alaska’s revenue by denying permission for drilling.

Palin has made the point that Alaska would love to become more self sufficient if the feds would allow more exploitation of natural resources, AND boost energy production for the good of the nation. (CNBC interview with Maria Bartiromo)

But what about Charlie Rangel's Monument to Me and Sheets Byrd's various centers in West Virginia?

I guess the MSM isn't interested in those...

So they admit the mayor did her job, and did it well.

This is the exagerated ANWAR argument...We want to use 1% of the land for drilling, but the impression we get from the media is that we are going to purposely spray oil and tar all over the entire mountain range and kill all of the bears....(no mountains in area, or significant wild life).

The funds requestes - I would like to understand a little more about them. $27 million dollars is not a small amount, but to install/upgrade sewer, rail (probably commuter rail), etc...does not seem to be out of range, especially as expensive as things are in Alaska. I believe you find this kind of stuff everywhere, if not worse, throughout the country - Democrat or Republican led areas...

Nothing surprises me concerning the MSM any more. They have lost all basis of objectivity. It would certainly stand to reason that a State like Alaska, with numerous acres of federal land, sparse population, and a multitude of military bases would receive a higher proportion of federal aid per capita than most states, particularly high income urban states, i.e. the Northeast. It's very obvious that what we've been seeing since McCain announced is the MSM go into complete attack mode in an attempt to discredit McCain's brilliant decision to pick Gov.Sarah Palin. I'm unaware of any negative press that Biden has received from the MSM since Obama announced. This guy has more skeletons in the closet than Davey Jones locker.

All the left is doing is pointing out that Palin has experience and Obambi has never voted for a darn thing.

He was “Present.”

Obama’s Chicago Annenberg Challenge (per wikipedia): $139 million to improve education with this outcome.

“Results suggest that among the schools it supported, the Challenge had little impact on school improvement and student outcomes, with no statistically significant differences between Annenberg and non-Annenberg schools in rates of achievement gain, classroom behavior, student self-efficacy, and social competence.”

Obama is good at spending other people’s money without result.

What people do not know is that Wasilla is the hub of many small communities located in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley that has had its roads and infrastructure built in the 70’s and with our arctic conditions roads here barely last 5 years, population has exploded just outside of Wasilla in new housing tracts and thus schools had to be built.

I have seen it all for over a decade up front as I manage a concrete batch plant in Wasilla, all federal funding was sorely needed and we desperately need more because every day people keep moving here and now I expect a veritable stampede that will be almost like the gold rush days because Wasilla is in the international spotlight.

they can't have it both ways.

Its like the demosociomoronic oxymoronic line "well she may be a reformer but she has no experience."

Now just who said Palin did it. I could have been Ear Marks from their Republican Senator. And Obama should talk about Ear Marks. Especially to hospitals where his wife works.

So let me get this straight--if you don't do this kind of stuff, you're considered a failure, but if you do, you're considered a porker? Classic damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Like it or not, this is the system we have. Palin successfully worked the system without doing anything illegal. If you don't like it, change the system. But don't blame those who work it to the benefit of their locality.

I agree with you, Antonius. What’s more, it looks like she was able to bend Washington to her will from 4,246 miles away (as Google Maps flies). And yes, I know she apparently made a yearly trip to reel in the infrastructure herself.

For someone with no experience she sure knew how to make the system work for her state. Dem governors brag about how much pork they bring to their state.
