I thought of “Tommy” immediately. You would think that the
English would have learned that appeasement doesn’t work.
The Spanish have done it,and they breakup a terrorist cell
every other week in Barcelona.
Funnily enough, Kipling also had something to say about appeasement....
Dane-Geld

It is always a temptation to an armed and agile nation
To call upon a neighbour and to say: —
“We invaded you last night—we are quite prepared to fight,

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,

All due respect to Spain and her people, but have you forgotton that they changed their Prime Minister and withdrew from Iraq because of the Madrid attacks.
I remember a little event in London that didn’t result in any of these things.
