SYDNEY (AFP) Australia is in the grip of a "man drought" where women increasingly outnumber men and a good bachelor is hard to find, according to new research from a leading demographer.
From its founding as a British penal colony more than 200 years ago, Australia has traditionally suffered from a gender imbalance where men were more likely to be more numerous than the fairer sex Down Under.
But what was once an oversupply of testosterone began to move in the other direction in the 1990s, and single women in their thirties are beginning to wonder where all the men have gone, says study author Bernard Salt.
"In 1976 there were 54,000 more 30-something men than women on the Australian continent," he told AFP.
"That switched in the 1990s to the point that today there are 9,000 more 30-something women than men in Australia.

.. men were increasingly being drawn overseas as part of the internationalisation of the labour market.
“Our youngest, our brightest, our most ambitious, the slightly more male occupations are being attracted out of Australia,” he said.
“It upsets the gender balance.”
O man is this thread going to be fun.

Making a clean breast of fashion [Boobs for men as a fashion accessory] (Daily Telegraph 1-14-03 JENNIFER MELOCCO)
The provocative direction featuring male models with fake breasts under figure-hugging knitwear was sent down the catwalk by outrageous British designer Vivienne Westwood in the mens' autumn winter 2003 shows held this week. And while the effect may look outrageous today, fashion commentators reckon Sydney men may just end up adopting it in a few years' time.
Overheard at an Aussie bar, one single lady to another: “Yeah, baby, that’s a man!”

Who is willing to bet the 30-something men married 20-something women... having gotten tired of 30-something women’s issues... ;-)
Okay, just kidding.
9000 more women? hmmmm ... based on the higher percentage of men that go for men than women that go for women, this is a bigger drought than it looks! At least for the heterosexual’s among us!! ;-)

"Two girls for every boy..."
There's the problem. Those Limeys didn't know how to spell "penile".

Sorry, girls, no rain in the forecast.
It’s the sheep, the sheep do not complain!

You just have to know where to look...
Note to self:
Start chatting up some Aussie babes online.
In the 1970’s I was there. It was 6 girls to every guy then. Australia lost a lot of men in WWII and they have not come back by natural birth.
On a serious note, they mean working women that have put off getting married until their 30s so they could have a career are finding out you can't micro-manage you life that easily.
Reality check. The typical 30+ year old guy is looking for a woman in here mid-late 20s to marry. 40+ year old guys more than likely are married or divorced with kids.
The fact that women put off their personal lives until their 30s doesn't mean men did. This is the same thing that happened in the US in the '80s and '90s when you saw all the "where are all the single men" stories. The single men were out there when the women were in their 20s, but the chose to wait. By the time they were ready to get married (their 30s) those single men had been snapped up.
I never quite saw the fascination American men had with Asian women. Chinese and Korean women tend to lack curves, are extremely materialistic, and have ANNOYING accents.
The Aussie accent on a chick is amazingly hot and sexy in my opinion.
(Probably from watching old James Bond movies as a yute)
I hope to make the trip someday.
The history of its people is a proud one albeit their origins.
According to the 2006 Aussie censuss data:
There were 3,733 more females than males at age 30 (128,64 vs 132,382). If you add in the 4,830 more females at age 31 (131,778 vs 136,608), you only get a net difference of 8,563. But if you add in the age 32 group, with 5,640 more females than males (136,374 vs 142,014) your total is 14,203. We can only assume they took the age 30 and age 31 figures and rounded the sum difference up to 9,000.
If so, the difference amounts to about 1.6% of the female “30-something” population without a theoretical available male to marry. That does not sound like a significantly insurmountable difference given marriage patterns today, ease of travel and possibly moving in, or out of Australia, and the likelihood that in today's times more women are also may be more inclined than in the past to marry younger men. And, for the future, the ratio of males to females IS greater in every age group up to age 26. The current “30-something” problem seems to be a current problem only, not a future dilemma,
And they're too short.
well we now know where barney frank WON’T be vacationing.

Having traveled to Western Ukraine, I will wholeheartedly agree with your comment.

What is a yute?
"Don't mention me name, man," he said. "These women want my blood. They want to kill me." It appeared the Isa women had already got to the fidgety publican. He had a broken front tooth to accompany the black eye. "Nah, I just got punched out while waiting for a cab," he said.

Maybe I ought to consider a vacation “down under.”
Weegee gets by on a technicality — “Surf City” was written, produced, and partially sung by Beach-Boy-in-Chief Brian Wilson. BW was bawled out by his Dad for “giving away” a hit song to another band...
