It was the night before Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was to accept the Republican vice presidential nomination in a nationally televised speech, and Becky Moore couldn't sleep a wink.
Dr. Curt Menard, Gov. Sarah Palin's family friend and childhood dentist, looks over her high school yearbook.

"I was so nervous for her," said Moore, a dietitian who lives in Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "I felt like she was my relative, like she was about to prove herself to the country."
As much as Moore was hoping for the best, there was a part of her that didn't want to share her governor and former mayor with the lower 48, a term Alaskans use to refer to their distant countrymen with a mix of playfulness and disdain.
"No matter what happens, we win. If she becomes vice president, the rest of the country will see what a great leader she is. If she loses, we get her back," Moore said.

Which scares some few in Alaska more than a little. Sarah Palin has trampled mightily on some toes up there in Alaska, and they are still smarting from that. The "old-boy" network was postively shredded, and some suffered worse than others.
Of course, with an approval rating of some 80% (composed of highly approving to somewhat approving), the soreheads are in a distinct minority.
I think this may be an Esther thing.
Alaskans don’t all live in igloos?
Heh.
AT the risk of earning boos, hisses and jeers I must make an observation of the article. Odd they didn’t mention that Dr. Menard is a democrat and former state legislator who ran as a democrat after changing from republican at the last minute. In the last bourough election he ran against a solid republican whom Sarah had previously appointed as police chief. Instead of endorsing a republican conservative SP endorsed the democrat (known to be liberal and progressive) and shafted the republican. It was a shock to me and many who feared a leftward shift in the borough and assembly. In the end that is exactley what happened and now the Mat-Su borough is totally dominated by the left. SP defended her sell out of the party because of her friendship with the Menard family.
