I believe that someday we are going to have a woman president, possibly during my life, and I've often thought the best way to pave the way for this was to first nominate and elect a woman as vice-president.
But I think Mondale made a serious mistake when he picked Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate. In my view, he guessed wrong in deciding to take a congresswoman that almost nobody had ever heard of and try to put her in line for the presidency. We have had many successful woman governors around the country who have demonstrated the potential to serve as president, but he overlooked them. I think if the Republicans had done this with a Jeane Kirkpatrick (our UN representative), for example, there would have been a lot more sense to it.
Do any of your remember that?

No, I don’t remember, but thank you for the link.
Well done. Did you intend for it to look like she was blowing him a kiss?
Yes.
Democrats view being an unaccountable Senator as the stepping stone to the Presidency.
Republicans prefer nominating someone with successful executive experience, such as a Governor.
This doesn't hold true with every election. But it is a good indicator of the fundamental differences between the parties.
I read all of it.
We still must get out for John and Sarah.
Turn out will still be the issue.
How do combat Obama and ACORN?
You make sure you tree is bigger.
you = your
wasn't the problem. It was that Geraldine came across as a raging feminazi B****.
It is much more difficult for a woman to come across as strong and tough, without seeming like your ex-mother-in-law.
Palin has *it*, so far. But she hasn't faced the press yet. They are going to give her the Dan Quayle Clarence Thomas treatment. Many within both parties *cough cough NOONAN* hate her and are jealous of her. She has to face that and yet resist the crowd adulation of tens of thousands going to her head.
Pray. She must be impossibly strong.
bttt
I didn’t click your link first! Sorry ‘bout that. :^)
Of course at the time Geraldine had no foreign policy experience (and no executive experience) but the Dems were crying foul and calling criticism as sexism.
The great thing about your graphic is that you know, you just know, were President Reagan alive he would toast Governor Palin - and the Governor would most certainly blow him a kiss. Excellent.
"ACORN" reminds me of the treasures "planted" by little critters for later retrieval. That is, the acorns are the stash of imaginary and illegal voters who will spill out of the storehouses to vote for the O. I have to hope that the stockpiles will be saturated by floodwaters of truth, causing them to rot (and/or sprout in inhospitable places).
Fifty Quatloos on the newcomer.
Well, wait...what is the Quatloo/Dollar conversion these days?
Per Michael Barone at USNews.com:
"Geraldine Ferraro. Yes, she was in her third term in the House when she was nominated for vice president. But she did not serve on the committees handling foreign or defense policy and she did not have any major legislative achievements; she voted pretty much on the Democratic Party line. Before she was first elected to Congress in 1978, she was an assistant district attorney in Queens County handling domestic affairs casesthe kind of assignment a woman lawyer tended to get in those days. There was nothing in her background that suggested she could go toe-to-toe with an incumbent vice president who had been director of the CIA. "
President Reagan was right, of course. Mondale made a mistake in that Ferraro was unqualified as a V.P. candidate. Our Palin is more than qualified. Think President Grover Cleveland (mayor in 1881, then governor in 1882, then president in 1884 in his mid-40s).
