If you want to realize how close to disaster we came, just remember the main speakers on the last night of the GOP convention. Tom Ridge, Lindsey Graham, for example. These guys were god-awful and they sucked the air right out of the convention hall. If not for the spectacular performances earlier in the week of Thompson, Guiliani and Palin, this convention would have been a MAJOR bust. I was absolutely embarrassed for the Republican Party Thursday night and the GOP would do well to move those bores off the main stage for the 2012 convention and bring in more fresh faces like Bobby Jindal and other up-and-comers in the party.
Now this Sarah Palin phenomenon is a great thing and really took me by surprise. But I'm concerned that Sarah has not had a chance to more gradually develop on the national stage and might make a major career-ending gaffe because let's face it, she's a "rookie" in this arena. Now she seems to be a quick study and might well pull it off but the sharks are in the water and ready to pounce at the slightest drop of blood. Sarah needs to be "perfect" for at least the next 60 days.
With Sarah Palin, many conservatives now have something to look forward to other than tired-out old men. The GOP would do well
Rush, on Thursday, went into a lot of detail about Sarah being in that Convention hall on Wed.eve... how incredibly difficult it is to speak like that, timing, teleprompter, people going gah-gah, interrupting, even swooning, etc. He was just in awe of how she was able to do that the very first time she was put into such exposure. AND, the teleprompter was out of sync for over half the speech, too, which made that more impressive than I can even imagine!
He just believes she’s a true natural speaker, and that she will do well on the national stage because she hides nothing from the people.
I believe Rush is right, that this article is right that she doesn’t have to be “perfect”, but simply continue to be “real”.
