Larry Kudlow has expressed his concern that has John McCain wandered off-message in the wake of the release of high unemployment numbers.
On his radio show this morning, Kudlow said that McCain could sail to victory on a message of DRILL! DRILL! DRILL! and a promise to keep tax rates low. He said the current economic downturn stems from oil shock, and reminded us that the vast majority of Americans favor drilling - but McCain is skirting the message and failing to pound it home, missing a big opportunity.
After the jobs report yesterday, McCain focused on, of all things, using community colleges for retraining. Kudlow is concerned that if McCain doesn't speak forcefully to high pump prices and economic issues, he will lose the election.
According to Kudlow, McCain must forcefully reinforce his pledge to 1) drill, and 2) cut taxes EVERY DAY, and highlight the differences between him and Obama - principally that Obama will NOT drill and will RAISE taxes.
He should be hitting these two issues - energy and taxes - with the tenacity of a pit bull. Wake up, John McCain!
Drilling, nuclear energy, etc. create jobs. The high cost of energy eliminates them. Low cost energy is the lifeblood of a good economy.
Build nukes and drill. The jobs will take care of themselves.
Kudlow is one of my favorite commentators out there. He got his preferred veep pick, let’s hope he gets his pounded-home-daily, fundamental economic message as well.
Gas and mortgages. That's it.
Use nuclear weapons to drill for oil!!
“Gas and mortgages. That’s it.”
And the two are inexorably linked, as he pointed out this morning. Low gas prices have the same affect as a tax cut, while high gas prices only deepened the mortgage crisis by making it more difficult for many homeowners to meet their monthly obligations.
I didn’t think McCain drove this point home is his acceptance speech well enough the other night either. Energy development + Low taxes = SAY IT LOUD and SAY IT OFTEN MAC!
Energy development + Low taxes = Economic & Job growth. SAY IT LOUD and SAY IT OFTEN MAC!
He will get back on message
No; we have to address the effects of globalization. India, China, and Dubai are in marketplaces that we competed in almost alone 30 years ago.
Our Oklahoma employment numbers went from 4.2 to 4.0 during the same time period. We are pretty recession proof due to oil and gas and aerospace. The difference between OK and Alaska is that they don’t have taxes and we do.
It’s almost as if the Federal Government is enjoying the tax windfall from these pump prices a little too much.
In Iran.
He has to go, big time, on Drill, drill, drill .....offshore, ANWR, and oil shales. Fully explain how new construction of nuc plants, coal plants, along with wind/solar with create jobs, not only for the construction workers, but all the suppliers, truckers and eventual full time employees....and lessen our energy prices. POUND it in, how gasoline prices are what has brought the prices of food, clothing and other essentials up. Pound it in, that people are putting their paychecks into their gasoline tanks rather than going on vacation, buying a small luxury or even dining out. That’s how it’s hurting EVERY industry and small business. Then, fully POUND the democrats on Halting all drilling, Halting all nuc and coal plants, Halting all new and expansion of refineries. This ONE issue will get McCain/Palin into the White House, if portrayed in that manner.
“DRILL, BABY, DRILL” needs to be a campaign slogan!!
“No; we have to address the effects of globalization. India, China, and Dubai are in marketplaces that we competed in almost alone 30 years ago.”
I agree that this is important, and indirectly affects the kitchen table issues of gas prices and taxes - but I do not believe it will stimulate voters to pull the lever for McCain.
Show them how gas will dip below $3.00 merely on the strength of FUTURE increases in supply through offshore drilling and shale oil, and promise them they will keep more of their paycheck because you will hold the line on, or cut, taxes and veto earmarks, and you have two highly charged reasons to get out and vote Republican.
It was done to extract oil from shale. It did not work. That has been done here in Colorado.
D’oh! :-)
