When I worked with a White House Advance Team during the Bush 92' election, we got donations from local businesses for flags, many of which as large as 5x8'. All were taken by someone after the event. I got to keep some large US and Louisiana flags.

I also got a cool gold tie clip from President Bush.

Exactly...You would think that they would give them out sensing that people would want them, if for no other reason than to indicate “I was there” at such an historical event (like keeping a concert ticket stub—of course, this is still demeaning to the Flag). The fact that these flags were cast-offs, that they thought nothing of bringing them to the next event (can you picture the government waste if these guys get in) is indicative of their lack of stewardship with regard to resources (thus their lack of vision of tomorrow) and of their understanding of the power of symbols.
