Lincoln wasn't considered a particularly good orator either. However we all remember at least a little part of the Gettysburg Address. But what about The Gettysburg Oration? Who can quote anything from that 13,000+ word speech given by (and I had to look this up too) Edward Everett just before Lincoln spoke his few, but memorable words?

It wasn't the words but the content and the context. McCain's speech when compared to Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, was just a speech. But when compared to Obama's acceptance speech, it was the Gettysburg Address.
