Yeah, I was actually checking around throughout that night (I work nights), and hopped onto Intrade to check the status of the rumors around 5 or so in the morning.
I thought perhaps she would’ve jumped from 5% to maybe 25 or something and it might be a good buy, but I was amazed at how quickly the market reacted. Of course, this wasn’t the kind of thing subject to a vote or any other observable “market conditions”...it was a unilateral decision so the only question was how well McCain would keep it secret, and for how long. Once it came out, the contracts spiked to near-certainty, and that was still hours before any of the dinosaur media got around to it.
The best part? The bratty trust-find hippies on college campuses everywhere must’ve been so dismayed when the “tech savvy” Obama told them his VP choice via CNN (or rather, via phone calls from their parents who found out before they did by watching CNN). Meanwhile those on the right found out about “old man” McCain’s pick via Intrade, Drudge Report, etc, long before the news shows got around to it.
Obama didn’t have the guts to send the text message that he had chosen a wrinkley old white guy with some prior, but serious, health problems.
The dems are their own worst enemy.
