My colleagues in the American liberal press had little to fear at the start of the week. Their charismatic candidate was ahead in virtually every poll. George W Bush was so unpopular that conservatives were scrambling around for reasons not to invite the Republican President to the Republican convention. Democrats had only to maintain their composure and the White House would be theirs.

Best quote: “Hatred is the most powerful emotion in politics. At present, American liberals are not fighting for an Obama presidency. I suspect that most have only the haziest idea of what it would mean for their country. The slogans that move their hearts and stir their souls are directed against their enemies: Bush, the neo-cons, the religious right.”
Yes it is. Thanks for posting it.
And let's be really, really real...The Media picked Barak's running mate for him.
McCain picked his based on what he saw: An extraordinary woman with conservative values and a wonderful family.
This election is not won yet, McCain-Palin still have a long way to go, but if they can keep up their momentum, the authors assumption may prove correct in that the lib media and Dems wrecked their election chances last weekend.

Giving Berserkers an overblown reputation.
Most democrats are aligned “against” something instead of “for” something. Anti-business, anti-money, anti-life, anti-hunting, anti-gun, anti-development, etc. They’re an angry bunch and that doesn’t get you elected.
From the article:
‘When a man believes that any stick will do, he at once picks up a boomerang,’ said GK Chesterton, and when the politically committed go on a berserker you should listen for the sound of their own principles smacking them in the face
Barak picked Biden because he needed an attack dog and Biden is the "junk yard dog" of the Senate!!!
Let's look at taxes. Barry wants to raise taxes. He had absolutely no history, first hand, the benefits of tax cuts (improving employment rates, increasing revenues for the Federal government coffers, increase in savings, decrease in loan rates.)
Here's why:
In 1961, for Jack Kennedy's tax cuts, he was pooping in his diapers.
In 1980, for Ronaldus Magnus' tax cuts, he was a dope-smoking, drinking, oblivious 19 year old who was, among other things, clueless. In my case, I was trying to but a house under Carter's high loan rates - which soon dropped and got a raise in my take-home pay - directly because of Reagan's policies.
By the time the George W. Bush tax cuts came around, Barry was too busy voting "PRESENT" and ensuring that newborns who survived a botched abortion were left to die in a hospital storage room via suffocation or painful dehydration (like Terry Schiavo).
Barry complains about McCain "not getting it". Well, I can see why Barry "doesn't get it" when it comes to tax cuts. It is in the DNC playbook to fight tax cuts and increase taxes. It is the only "stick" they have. In this case, let's make it a boomerang.
And it’s in the Guardianista! Shock!
He lost me only once in his effort to keep it fair:
...we saw hypocrisy of the right when shock jocks who had spent years denouncing feminism came over all politically correct when Bill Clinton had an affair with Monica Lewinsky.
I just got my new tagline. :o)
The closing sentence regarding Barack Obama -
“He understands better than his supporters that it is not a politician’s enemies who lose elections, but his friends.”
Bingo!
some more great lines:
“In an age when politics is choreographed, voters watch out for the moments when the public-relations facade breaks down and venom pours through the cracks. Their judgment is rarely favourable when it does. Barack Obama knows it. All last week, he was warning American liberals to stay away from the Palin family. He understands better than his supporters that it is not a politician’s enemies who lose elections, but his friends.”
Double bingo!
Absolutely worth reading. Thank you for suggesting it. The Guardian has some decent writers that can look at things through a clearer glass than most in the American media.
Loved the Chesterton quote!
