That was another obscenely dishonest line, IMHO. I was in ROTC in 1978 (later dropped out, then went to OTS in ‘83). In 1979, when he said he considered joining, we were NOT popular. On a very conservative campus in UTAH, I got a lot of strange looks and disparaging remarks wearing a uniform. I cannot imagine the response in much more liberal HAWAII.
Sorry, but this rates right up with Hillary claiming she wanted to join the Marines. In a pig’s eye, she did!
Politicians of all stripes exaggerate, select, distort, and puff themselves up, and always have. The unique price we paid for the Clinton regime was that this kind of frank shameless lying became institutionalized in 'rat politics. Make up any damn thing that you think will sell, just make sure it isn't fact-checkable. Stick with old stories where all possible witnesses are dead or unidentifiable; hide as much of your paper trail as you can, ahead of time, just to be on the safe side; report vaporous nonsense about 'intentions,' which no one can see, as if it were the equivalent of action. Count on the NEA to keep the boobs stupid and hopefully they will never wake up to what you're doing.
