TMZ is reporting that a large number of "Us Weekly" readers have canceled their subscriptions in protest of the magazine's treatment of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin: There were reports as many as 10,000 subscribers bailed, but US told Page Six the number was closer to 1,000. Apparently the mag -- and to be fair just about everyone else in the media -- misjudged Palin's impact once she opened her mouth. Strangely, there has not been a concurrent spike in subscriptions to The New Yorker.
I'm not really sure how to feel about this. Less "Us" readership seems like good news at first blush, but I fer the end result will be a move from "low information voter" to "lower information voter," and finally to "Fox News Viewer."
"Us" brought this on themselves, to some degree. If they had gone with a headline like "Keep the Product of Your Rapist's Loins and Like it!" or "I Can See The Kremlin From Here, So I'm a Foreign Policy Pro," they might still have lost some readers, but gained my respect.
I read that it was actually around 1000 subscribers and they will just blow those people off as kooks anyway.
They just keep digging, without realizing they’ve already reached the bottom.
JERK !
If you see this magazine in the store, put another (preferably unpopular) magazine in front of it.
The question is what took them so long? :)
I made it my life never to spend a cent on a lefty rag or movies or websites... That is my revenge.
If I must see it, the library :)
Sorry IndianPrincessOK din’t mean you got to fast on the post key.
I can’t imagine this rag even HAVNG 10,000 suscribers.
In the best of times it is trivial drivel appealing only to those without a real life of their own (and therefore focused on some “celebrity”).
Do people really read this crap? And what would make the publishers imagine they had some politial clout?
More proof that out in Real America, people are not digging the Sarah Palin attacks...at all....
The folks who do the work out in America are not happy, I’m amazed that is hasn’t shown up in the polls yet, it will though of that I have no doubt.
The more the MSM attacks the Palins, the more people will Rally to Palin!
Hey...there’s an AOL poll on the right side of the page...several questions...
I saw the editor of this rag lying on FOX, claiming the cover wasn’t a hit piece on Palin. The reporter tore him to shreds.
Something I’ve often wondered: Does canceling a magazine subscription mean the subscriber receives a refund for the issues yet to be delivered? If not, why would someone call up the magazine to cancel instead of simply waiting for the subscription to run out and not renew?
I turned the magazine backwards at the super market checkout stand this morning.
I just heard on radio news (ABC, I think) that Sarah will give her first interview near the end of the week to Charlie Gibson of ABC. I wouldn’t take it as gospel.
VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLARS BABY!
Yeah!
GOOD! Good Start. Let's hope that 10-times that number cancel.
There Goes Trouble Down The Drain!
Hope you will join me in this little adventure against biased journalism.
Why any conservative would read that magazine in the first place is beyond me. It’s nothing but gossip trash.
I walked past the magazine rack in Walgreen’s, stopped, backed up and looked again.
No US on the rack. People, and other such, but not one issue of US. I took a walk around the store. Nope. Nowhere. The store pulled them.
